Wheelchair rugby (originally murderball, and known as quad rugby in the United States) is a team sport for athletes with a disability. It is practised in over twenty-five countries around the world and is a summer Paralympic sport. The US name is based on the requirement that all wheelchair rugby players need to have disabilities that include at least some loss of function in at least three limbs. Although most have spinal cord injuries, players may also qualify through multiple amputations, neurological disorders or other medical conditions. Players are assigned a functional level in points, and each team is limited to fielding a team with a total of eight points. Wheelchair rugby is played indoors on a hardwood court, and physical contact between wheelchairs is an integral part of the game. The 2022 World Games were an international multi-sport event held from July 7 to 17, 2022, in Birmingham, Alabama, United States. They were the 11th World Games, a multi-sport event featuring disciplines of Olympic sports and other competitions that are not currently contested at the Olympic Games; the Games featured 3,600 athletes competing in 206 medal events over 30 sports. They were originally scheduled to be held in 2021, but were postponed by one year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The World Games are an international multi-sport event comprising sports and sporting disciplines that are not contested in the Olympic Games. They are usually held every four years, one year after a Summer Olympic Games, over the course of 11 days. The World Games are governed by the International World Games Association, under the patronage of the International Olympic Committee. Kylie Grimes
Kylie Grimes (born 7 December 1987 in Aldershot, Hampshire) is a British para-athlete. She is one of two women, along with Bieke Ketelbuters, who competed on wheelchair rugby teams at the 2012 Summer Paralympics. She was part of the GB team to win their first ever gold in the event, at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan, beating the USA 54–49. In doing so she became the first woman of any country to win a Paralympic gold medal in the sport. Early life Grimes became disabled after a diving accident at a friend's swimming pool. She attempted to sue over the matter but was unsuccessful. She trains 12 hours a week. She considers herself positive and was surprised to be named to the British team. Yuki Hasegawa (wheelchair Rugby)
is a Japanese wheelchair rugby player who currently plays for Société Générale Securities and the Japanese national team. Background and career Hasegawa graduated from Hiroshima Water Polo Club and Hiroshima Johoku Junior and Senior High School. He joined the team in the fifth grade of elementary school and participated in the national tournament in his third year of junior high school. is a Japanese wheelchair rugby player who currently plays for Mitsui O.S.K. Lines/AXE and the Japanese national team. Background and career Kurahashi continued gymnastics in junior high and high school, and after graduating from high school, she entered Bunkyo University Faculty of Education in Saitama Prefecture with the aim of becoming a teacher, and joined the trampoline club. In her third year at university, she failed a trick while practicing for a trampoline tournament, breaking her neck and damaging her cervical spinal cord. She lost almost all feeling below her collarbone and could only move part of her shoulders and arms.
