The women's singles wheelchair tennis tournament at the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo is held at the Ariake Tennis Park in Kōtō, Tokyo from 28 August and 3 September 2021. The reigning champion was Jiske Griffioen, who was not defending her title, having retired in 2017. Ariake Coliseum
is an indoor sporting arena in located in Ariake, Kōtō, Tokyo, Japan. It has a capacity of 10,000 and is one of the few professional tennis venues which has a retractable roof. Events The arena is used as the center court for the Japan Open and the Pan Pacific Open, held in Ariake Tennis Forest Park. This venue will also host Road FC 24, instead of Ryogoku Kokugikan. The venue also hosted the tennis events for the 2020 Summer Olympics. Kgothatso Montjane (born 3 June 1986) is a South African wheelchair tennis player. In 2018, she became the first black South African woman to compete at Wimbledon. Early life Montjane was born in Seshego on the periphery of Polokwane, Limpopo with a congenital disorder which affected both of her hands and a foot with the other foot being amputated by the age of 12. Career Montjane is a successful wheelchair tennis player who is placed in the top 10 of the ITF ranking. Her highest rank was 5 in the world in 2005. She was named South Africa's disabled sportswoman of the year three times, in 2005, 2011 and 2015. Emmy Kaiser (born May 16, 1990) is an American wheelchair tennis player. Biography Kaiser was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. A graduate of St. Henry High School, she is a 2011 Parapan American Games gold medalist for doubles wheelchair tennis and silver medalist for singles. She resides at Fort Mitchell, Kentucky and is living with spina bifida. She has a bachelor's degree in psychology and attended Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana for a degree in exercise and sport psychology in which she got enrolled right after the 2012 Summer Paralympics. Her passion for such career persuasion started at the age of 14 when she met sports psychologist during a training session at the U.S. Paralympic Junior National team. Macarena Andrea "Maca" Cabrillana Sanhueza (born 31 March 1992) is a Chilean wheelchair tennis player. She was the first Chilean wheelchair tennis player to compete in a Grand Slam when she competed at the 2021 Australian Open, she was a quarterfinalist in the singles event and a semifinalist in the doubles event.
