Olympic Tennis Centre (Rio De Janeiro)
The Olympic Tennis Centre ( pt, Centro Olímpico de Tênis) is a tennis venue located in the Barra Olympic Park in Barra da Tijuca in the West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The centre hosted tennis events of the 2016 Summer Olympics, and the wheelchair tennis events of the 2016 Summer Paralympics. The centre was built on the site of the former Nelson Piquet International Autodrome. History Construction The centre was designed by architect Gerkan, Marg and Partners, along with Schlaich Bergermann Partner. The centre consists of a tennis stadium and 15 ancillary courts. The center court has a capacity of 10,000, with the two temporary arenas with a capacity of 5,000 and 3,000 respectively. The surface will be hard court, supplied by GreenSet. Emmy Kaiser (born May 16, 1990) is an American wheelchair tennis player. Biography Kaiser was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. A graduate of St. Henry High School, she is a 2011 Parapan American Games gold medalist for doubles wheelchair tennis and silver medalist for singles. She resides at Fort Mitchell, Kentucky and is living with spina bifida. She has a bachelor's degree in psychology and attended Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana for a degree in exercise and sport psychology in which she got enrolled right after the 2012 Summer Paralympics. Her passion for such career persuasion started at the age of 14 when she met sports psychologist during a training session at the U.S. Paralympic Junior National team. Yui Kamiji
is a Japanese wheelchair tennis player. She has won 26 major titles, as well as a Paralympic silver and bronze medal in singles and doubles, respectively, at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. She also won a bronze medal in singles at the 2016 Rio Paralympics. Partnering Jordanne Whiley, Kamiji achieved the Grand Slam in doubles in 2014, and also won the Wheelchair Tennis Masters in doubles. Kamiji is the current Wheelchair Tennis Masters champion and is a former junior version. Francisca Mardones (born 24 September 1977) is a Chilean Paralympic athlete and former wheelchair tennis player. She has competed at both the 2012 and 2016 Summer Paralympics in tennis, before retiring in 2017 to concentrate on athletics. She broke her own world record in the F54 Women's shot put event at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. Career As a child, Mardones aspired to compete in sports and represent Chile at the Olympic Games.
