Punjab (; , ) is one of the four provinces of Pakistan. Located in central-eastern region of the country, Punjab is the second-largest province of Pakistan by land area and the largest province by population. It shares land borders with the Pakistani provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to the north-west, Balochistan to the south-west and Sindh to the south, as well as Islamabad Capital Territory to the north-west and Autonomous Territory of AJK to the north. It shares an International border with the Indian states of Rajasthan and Punjab to the east and Indian-administered Kashmir to the north-east. Punjab is the most fertile province of the country as River Indus and its four major tributaries Ravi, Jhelum, Chenab and Sutlej flow through it. West Punjab
West Punjab ( pnb, ; ur, ) was a province in the Dominion of Pakistan from 1947 to 1955. The province covered an area of 159,344 km2 (61523 sq mi), including much of the current Punjab (Pakistan), Punjab province and the Islamabad Capital Territory, but excluding the former State of Bahawalpur, Princely state of Bahawalpur. The capital was the city of Lahore and the province was composed of four divisions (Lahore Division, Lahore, Sargodha Division, Sargodha, Multan Division, Multan and Rawalpindi Division, Rawalpindi). The province was bordered by the Bahawalpur (princely state), princely state of Bahawalpur to the south, the province of Baluchistan (Chief Commissioner's Province), Baluchistan to the south-west and Sind Province (1936–1955), Sind to the south, North-West Frontier Province to the northwest, and Azad Kashmir to the north.
