West Virginia's 8th Senate District
West Virginia's 8th Senate district is one of 17 districts in the West Virginia Senate. It is currently represented by Republicans Glenn Jeffries and Mark Hunt. All districts in the West Virginia Senate elect two members to staggered four-year terms. Geography District 8 covers parts of Kanawha and Putnam Counties, including much of northern Charleston, the state's capital and largest city. Other communities in the district include Dunbar, Nitro, Cross Lanes, Rand, Sissonville, Buffalo, and Eleanor. West or Occident is one of the four cardinal directions or points of the compass. It is the opposite direction from east and is the direction in which the Sun sets on the Earth. Eleanor, West Virginia
Eleanor is a town in Putnam County, West Virginia, United States, along the Kanawha River. Its population was 1,548 at the 2020 census. The town, named for Eleanor Roosevelt, was established as a New Deal project in the 1930s like other Franklin D. Roosevelt towns around the nation (e.g. Greenbelt, Greenhills, Greendale, Hanford, or Norris). Eleanor is a part of the Huntington-Ashland, WV-KY-OH, Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). As of the 2010 census, the MSA had a population of 287,702. New definitions from February 28, 2013 placed the population at 363,000. History Eleanor was established in 1934, when President Franklin D. Roosevelt and First Lady Eleanor visited the county and developed it as a test site for families. It was one of three resettlement communities in West Virginia, the others being Arthurdale and Tygart Valley. The 2020 United States presidential election in West Virginia was held on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, as part of the 2020 United States presidential election in which all 50 states plus the District of Columbia participated. West Virginia's 2012 general elections were held on November 6, 2012. Primary elections were held on May 8, 2012. Erik Wells
Erik Patrick Wells (born February 5, 1967) is an American politician and former television news anchor. Wells was born and raised in California, but moved to West Virginia in the early 1990s to further his career in journalism. Wells was a popular co-anchor in the state's capital, Charleston, while on a morning show called ''Good Morning, West Virginia'' with his wife Natalie Tennant on WCHS TV. After leaving television news, Wells and his wife decided to pursue political careers. Wells was the Democratic nominee for West Virginia's Second Congressional District. Joshua Kurt Higginbotham (born July 23, 1996) is an American politician and author. He served in the West Virginia House of Delegates as a Republican, representing the 13th district, from 2016 until November 2021.
