West Ukrainian Football Derby
West Ukrainian football derby was an unofficial competition as part of the Ukrainian Premier League that consisted of series of rivalries in the region of western Ukraine. History This derby started with the establishment of the Ukrainian Premier League in 1992. Most of the time the clubs that performed the best in the derby were far from being a successful season overall in the League. Karpaty, being the best club in the region, often had a difficult time to prove themselves as such with their regional neighbors. The derby faded away to lower leagues by 2001. After 2001 new participants such as Zakarpattia and Lviv replaced other teams in the rivalry. From the initial top level participants only Karpaty and Volyn continue to perform in the premiers. FC Nyva Vinnytsia is a professional Ukraine, Ukrainian association football, football club based in the city of Vinnytsia. The name "Nyva" translates to "grain field". The club was originally created in 1958 in the Soviet Union and folded in 2005 and 2012, but was reformed again in 2015 as Nyva-V and renamed back to Nyva in 2018. Klasychne derby (Ukrainian: ''Класичне'', as ''Classico''), or the ''Ukrainian football rivalry'' is the football match between the two top Ukrainian clubs Dynamo Kyiv and Shakhtar Donetsk. The game between those two clubs is a focal point of each football season in Ukraine. Due to war, at least three of their scheduled fixtures were scratched in 1941 and 2022. Dynamo and Shakhtar were the top Ukrainian clubs since introduction of the Soviet professional football competitions in 1936. They played against each other since 1938 and the rivalry between them two grew into the Ukrainian national rivalry only sometime after 1996 since the teams were two main contenders for the national title. Some matches between these clubs could be traced as early as 1931 as part of the republican Dynamo sports society competitions when Dynamo Kyiv was playing against the Shakhtar's predecessor Dynamo Stalino. Narodnyy Klub Veres Rivne ( uk, РНК «Верес») is a Ukrainian professional football club based in Rivne. The club competes in the Ukrainian Premier League, the top tier of Ukrainian football, after winning the 2020–21 Ukrainian First League. Their home stadium until 2017 was Avanhard Stadium. Football Sports Club Bukovyna Chernivtsi is a Ukrainian professional football club based in Chernivtsi. History The club was established in 1958 as Avanhard Chernivtsi (Avangard Chernovtsy) for republican competitions and became the first club from Chernivtsi Oblast to be added to the Soviet Class B competition in 1960. FC Nyva Ternopil ( uk, Футбольний клуб «Нива» Тернопіль) is a Ukrainian football club from the city of Ternopil, the administrative center of Ternopil Oblast.
