Gary is a city in Lake County, Indiana, United States. The city has been historically dominated by major industrial activity and is home to U.S. Steel's Gary Works, the largest steel mill complex in North America. Gary is located along the southern shore of Lake Michigan about east of downtown Chicago, Illinois. The city is adjacent to the Indiana Dunes National Park, and is within the Chicago metropolitan area. Gary was named after lawyer Elbert Henry Gary, who was the founding chairman of the United States Steel Corporation. U.S. Steel had established the city as a company town to serve its steel mills. Gary Community School Corporation serves most students who reside in Gary, Indiana. History In 2017, Gary Community Corp became the first school system in Indiana involved in a state takeover. The Great Lakes Athletic Conference is a four-member IHSAA-sanctioned conference located entirely within Lake County. Jon'Vea J'Qyay Johnson (born December 23, 1995) is an American football wide receiver who is a free agent. He played college football at the University of Toledo. Johnson has also been a member of the Dallas Cowboys, Jacksonville Jaguars, Chicago Bears, Montreal Alouettes, and Memphis Showboats.
