West Scarborough
West Scarborough is an area within the northwesternmost portion of the town of Scarborough, Maine. While the area of town around Dunstan Corner was once known as "West Scarborough" because of the station of that name on the Eastern Railroad, the term now refers to an area that is roughly defined as west of the Maine Turnpike and U.S. Route 1, west of Dunstan Corner, and southwest of North Scarborough. It is the most rural part of Scarborough, with comparatively the lowest amount of residential and business development; however, recent years have seen a strong increase in residential construction and population. It is closely linked with the adjacent neighborhood of North Scarborough - in local perception, the two neighborhoods are often mutually inclusive. It borders Scarborough's neighboring towns of Gorham, Buxton, as well as the city of Saco, and is closer in distance to the downtown core of Gorham than Scarborough's downtown core, Oak Hill. Dunstan is a census-designated place (CDP) in the town of Scarborough, Cumberland County, Maine, United States. Also known as West Scarborough, the community is in the southwest part of the town, along U.S. Route 1. Maine State Route 9 runs northward from Dunstan with US 1 towards Portland but leads southeast out of the community as Pine Point Road, towards Old Orchard Beach. Eastern Railroad
The Eastern Railroad was a railroad connecting Boston, Massachusetts to Portland, Maine. Throughout its history, it competed with the Boston and Maine Railroad for service between the two cities, until the Boston & Maine put an end to the competition by leasing the Eastern in December 1884. Maine Turnpike
Interstate 95 (I-95) in the US state of Maine is a highway running from the New Hampshire state line in Kittery, to the Canadian border in Houlton. It is the only two-digit Interstate Highway in Maine. In 2004, the highway's route between Portland and Gardiner was changed so that it encompasses the entire Maine Turnpike (including the former I-495 between Falmouth and Gardiner), a toll road running from Kittery to Augusta. Route description I-95 enters Maine as a six lane highway from New Hampshire on the Piscataqua River Bridge, which connects Portsmouth, New Hampshire, with Kittery. North Scarborough is an area within the town of Scarborough, Maine. It is centered on the intersection of Maine Route 22 (County Road) with Beech Ridge Road and Saco Street, and the adjacent junction of Route 22 and Maine Route 114 (Gorham Road). It is closely linked with the adjacent area of West Scarborough - in local perception, they're often mutually inclusive.
