The West Mercia Police and Crime Commissioner is the police and crime commissioner (PCC), an elected official tasked with setting out the way crime is tackled by West Mercia Police in the English counties of Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Shropshire. The post was created in November 2012, following an election held on 15 November 2012, and replaced the West Mercia Police Authority. John Campion (politician)
John-Paul Campion (born 1976) is an English politician and the current Police and Crime Commissioner for the West Mercia region, representing the Conservative Party. He was elected to the post in 2016. Prior to his election as Police and Crime Commissioner, Campion worked for HM Prison Service as a contractors escort, and served as leader of Wyre Forest District Council. Career As well as a career in business, Campion worked for HM Prison Service as a contractors escort in high security prisons. He was first elected as a councillor to Wyre Forest District Council in 2004, and in 2007 was appointed as its leader, becoming the youngest person to hold that office, as well as the longest. Warwickshire Police is the territorial police force responsible for policing Warwickshire in England. It is the second smallest territorial police force in England and Wales after the City of London Police, with only 823 (full-time equivalents) regular officers as of September 2017. Philip Stanley Seccombe (born July 1951) is the Warwickshire Police and Crime Commissioner, representing the Conservative Party. He was first elected at the elections for police and crime commissioners held across England and Wales on 5 May 2016, with 43,208 votes. He was re-elected at the 2021 England and Wales police and crime commissioner elections with 85,963 votes, winning in the first round with 52.07%. The Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) is the statutory fire and rescue service covering Herefordshire and Worcestershire in the West Midlands region of England. The service covers an area of , and a population of around 780,000 people. Police Reform And Social Responsibility Act 2011
The Police Reform and Social Responsibility Act 2011 (c. 13) is an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It transfers the control of police forces from police authorities to elected Police and Crime Commissioners. The first police commissioner elections were held in November 2012. The next elections took place in May 2016 and will subsequently take place every four years. The Act repeals the provisions in the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005 which prohibit protests near Parliament Square, and instead restricts certain "prohibited activities" in Parliament Square garden and the adjoining footways. The police have used these powers to confiscate pizza boxes, tarpaulin and umbrellas from protesters in Parliament Square. West Mercia Police Authority
West Mercia Police Authority was the governing body of the West Mercia Police force in the English counties of Herefordshire, Worcestershire, and Shropshire until November 2012. Police authorities were replaced by directly elected police and crime commissioners. The current police and crime commissioner for West Mercia is Bill Longmore. Constitution Police Authorities were usually a board of members consisting of local councillors and independent members appointed directly to serve in that role. In West Mercia, the Police Authority had a membership of 17 people drawn from across the force area: *Nine members were Councillors, nominated by the lead local authorities in West Mercia. *Eight are Independent Members directly appointed (at least one of these members has to be a magistrate).
