West High School (Phoenix, Arizona)
West High School was a high school that formed part of the Phoenix Union High School District in Phoenix, Arizona. History West High School was one of five Phoenix Union high schools that were built between 1949 and 1957, the others being Camelback, Carl Hayden, Central, and South Mountain. The campus was designed by a group of local architects consisting of Lescher & Mahoney, Edward L. Varney, H. H. Green and Edwin Dwight Chenault. Declining enrollment during the 1980s resulted in the closure of West, along with North High School, Phoenix Union High School, and East High School. Metro Tech High School, then named Metro Tech Vocational Institute of Phoenix, was opened on the grounds of West High in 1985. Campus The campus used to have an Olympic-sized swimming pool, but was later filled in. The site of the pool later became the school's cafeteria. Lincoln-West High School (L-W) is a high school located in Cleveland, in the U.S. state of Ohio and part of the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. The school's name is a by-product of the merger between Cleveland's Lincoln High School and West High School. The current school building was built in 1970. Lee's Summit West High School is located at 2600 Southwest Ward Road in Lee's Summit, Missouri, United States. It opened in the fall of 2004 and is part of the Lee's Summit R-VII School District. Kenmore West Senior High School (nicknamed Ken-West) is one of two public high schools in the Kenmore-Town of Tonawanda School District. The other is Kenmore East Senior High School. History Founding In 1938, a WPA grant of about $700,000 was received from the federal government toward the creation of a separate building for the senior high school on Highland Parkway, and the school district provided over $1M in additional funds. The plot on which the school is situated cost $35,000. The school opened in the fall of 1940 with fifty faculty members and 1,250 pupils. Green Bay West High School is a high school in Green Bay, Wisconsin, United States, serving the city's west side. Originally founded in 1890 as the high school for the town of Fort Howard (annexed into Green Bay in 1895), the school opened as West High School in 1910 and has occupied its current building since 1929. History The institution that would become West High School opened in 1890 as the McCartney School, in what then was the neighboring town of Fort Howard. With the annexation of Fort Howard into Green Bay in 1895, the two school districts merged, though the McCartney School (known as Old West High) would continue to operate until 1910, when West High School formally opened.
