Ice Hockey At The 1976 Winter Olympics
The men's ice hockey tournament at the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria, was the 13th Olympic Championship. The Soviet Union won its fifth gold medal. Games were held at the Olympiahalle Innsbruck. Highlights The main rivalry in the tournament was between the USSR and Czechoslovak national teams. The Czechoslovak team suffered from influenza throughout the tournament, and they finished the game against Poland with only twelve players on the bench. A doping test of one of the players was positive and a loss was recorded for the Czechoslovak team, although Poland did not receive points. In the deciding game, Czechoslovakia was up 2–0 after the first period. In the second, the score was tied by Vladimir Shadrin and Vladimir Petrov. Eight minutes before the end of the game, Eduard Novák scored for the Czechoslovak team, putting them up 3–2. Franz Reindl
Franz Reindl (born 24 November 1954) is a retired professional ice hockey player who played in the German Bundesliga. He was born in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, West Germany. Reindl played for SC Riessersee his first 12 seasons of senior team hockey. His best offensive season was 1981-2 when he scored 102 points in 43 games. Alois Schloder (born 11 August 1947 in Landshut, Germany) is a retired ice hockey player. He participated at the 1976 Winter Olympics and won a bronze medal. He was disqualified from the 1972 Winter Olympics after failing a doping test. Erich Kühnhackl
Erich Kühnhackl (born 17 October 1950) is a German former professional ice hockey player, born and raised in Czechoslovakia. He is one of the all-time greats of German ice hockey and was named Germany's ice hockey player of the 20th century in 2000. Kühnhackl is a member of the IIHF Hall of Fame as well as of the German ice hockey Hall of Fame and Germany's Sport Hall of Fame. Career He won four German Championships and a bronze medal at the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck and is widely regarded as the best German hockey player ever and was inducted into the International Ice Hockey Federation Hall of Fame in 1997.
