Wenzel Trnka
Wenzel Trnka von Krzowitz (Czech: Václav Trnka z Křovic; 1739–1791) was a physician, professor, and amateur composer of the 18th century. Life He was born 16 October 1739 in Tábor in Bohemia. In 1769, during his medical studies, the famous physician Gerard van Swieten named him to serve as his assistant in the military hospital (Militärkrankenhaus). He received his doctorate 19 February 1770 with a treatise entitled "De morbo coxario"; ("On disease of the hip"). In June of the same year he was appointed to a professorial chair in anatomy at the University of Nagyszombat. Trnka thus became one of five who first formed the medical faculty there. He continued his service when the university was moved, first to Buda in 1777 and later to Pest, in 1784. "" ("Lick my arse right well and clean") is a canon for three voices in B-flat major, K. 233/382d. The music was long thought to have been composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart during 1782 in Vienna, but now thought to be the work of Wenzel Trnka. The lyrics appear to stem from Mozart. Authenticity In 1988, Wolfgang Plath presented evidence that the composer of this piece, as well as K. 234/382e, was in fact Wenzel Trnka (1739–1791). That Mozart might not be the author of K. 229, K. 230, K. 231, K. 233, K. 234 was already mentioned in the Bärenreiter '' Neue Mozart-Ausgabe'' (NMA) in 1974. The Trnka canon's original lyrics were "Tu sei gelosa, è vero," but Mozart set the canon to his own scatological lyrics. Mozart's widow Constanze Mozart submitted the modified canon to publisher Breitkopf & Härtel. Neal Zaslaw
Neal Zaslaw (born June 28, 1939) is an American musicologist. Life and career Born in New York, Zaslaw graduated from Harvard in 1961 with a BA and obtained his master's from Juilliard in 1963. He played flute in the American Symphony Orchestra under Leopold Stokowski from 1962 to 1965. In 1970 he received his Ph.D from Columbia University; he also taught at CUNY, 1968-70. Since 1970 he has taught at Cornell University. Zaslaw's early work dealt with performance practice, especially tempo and ornamentation with respect to French and Italian styles. Zaslaw has done extended work on the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, including a landmark 1989 work on his symphonies. In 1993, he was named the principal editor of the revised Köchel catalogue. Simon Keefe
Simon Patrick Keefe (born 24 December 1968) is a musicologist, author, and Mozart expert. He was educated at the University of Cambridge, Boston University and Columbia University. After being awarded his PhD in 1997, he was appointed to a lectureship at Christ Church, Oxford, and then lectured at Queen's University Belfast in 1999. In 2003, he took up a post at City, University of London, where he became a professor of music. In 2008, he was appointed to the James Rossiter Hoyle Chair of Music at the University of Sheffield. Keefe specialises in Mozart, and is the only British member of the Salzburg-based Akademie für Mozart-Forschung of the Internationale Stiftung Mozarteum, as of 2005. The firm was founded by Karl Vötterle (1903–1975) in Augsburg in 1923, and moved to Kassel in 1927, where it still has its headquarters; it also has offices in Basel, London, New York and Prague. Wolfgang Rehm
Wolfgang Rehm (3 September 1929 – 6 April 2017) was a German musicologist active mostly in music publishing, especially the ''Neue Mozart-Ausgabe''. He was on the board of its editorial team for decades, and personally edited operas and piano music. While he worked on it for Bärenreiter in Kassel, he was responsible for the program of the Kasseler Musiktage festival, and after he moved for further work to Salzburg, he shaped the program of the Mozartwoche. He was also a member of the International Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres from 1959 to 1985, and also a founding member and treasurer of the Répertoire International des Sources Musicales data base. Dietrich Berke
Dietrich Berke (26 February 1938 – 16 October 2010) was a German musicologist and Chief editor of the Bärenreiter music publishing house. Born in Castrop-Rauxel, Berke studied musicology, German, and philosophy in Kiel and Würzburg where he received his doctorate in musicology in 1967. Afterwards, he was a scholarship holder of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft. From 1969 to 2002, he was a lecturer, and later chief lecturer at the Kasseler Bärenreiter publishing house. The Köchel catalogue (german: Köchel-Verzeichnis, links=no) is a chronological catalogue of compositions by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, originally created by Ludwig Ritter von Köchel, in which the entries are abbreviated ''K.'', or ''KV''. The numbers of the Köchel catalogue reflect the continuing establishment of a complete chronology of Mozart's works, and provide a shorthand reference to the compositions.
