Wellington Women's Cricket Team
The Wellington Blaze is the women's representative cricket team for the New Zealand city of Wellington. They play their home games at Basin Reserve. They compete in the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield one-day competition and the Women's Super Smash Twenty20 competition. They are the most successful side in the history of the Super Smash, with seven title wins, as well as being the current holders of the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield. History Wellington played in the first Hallyburton Johnstone Shield in 1935–36, in which they beat Auckland to claim the title. They subsequently defended the title over the next two seasons, before losing it to Auckland in 1939–40. Wellington have gone on to win the Shield (under various names) 18 times. Otago Sparks
The Otago Sparks is the women's representative cricket team for the New Zealand region of Otago and the surrounding area. They play their home games at University Oval, Dunedin. They compete in the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield one-day competition and the Women's Super Smash Twenty20 competition. They are the current holders of the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield, having won the 2021–22 competition. History Otago made their first appearance in the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield in 1939–40, where they lost to Wellington. The following period was dominated by Auckland and Wellington, however, and Otago did not record a second-place finish until 1957–58. They finished second again in 1960–61 before finally winning their first title in 1962–63, winning two matches and drawing one. The 2021–22 Dream11 Super Smash was the fifteenth season of the women's Super Smash Twenty20 cricket competition played in New Zealand. It took place between 26 November 2021 and 29 January 2022. Canterbury Magicians were the defending champions. The tournament ran alongside the 2021–22 Hallyburton Johnstone Shield. Wellington Blaze won the tournament after defeating Otago Sparks in the final, winning their 7th title. Competition format Teams played in a double round-robin in a group of six, therefore playing 10 matches overall. Matches were played using a Twenty20 format. Sophie Devine
Sophie Frances Monique Devine (born 1 September 1989) is a New Zealand sportswoman, who has represented New Zealand in both cricket for the New Zealand national women's cricket team (''White Ferns''), and in field hockey as a member of the New Zealand women's national field hockey team (''Black Sticks Women''). She has since focused on cricket. She is known for not wearing a helmet when batting, a rarity in 21st century cricket. In December 2017, she was named as one of the players in the ICC Women's T20I Team of the Year. In August 2018, she was awarded a central contract by New Zealand Cricket, following the tours of Ireland and England in the previous months. Amelia Kerr
Amelia Charlotte Kerr (born 13 October 2000) is a New Zealand cricketer who currently plays for Wellington and New Zealand. On 13 June 2018, Kerr made the highest individual score in a WODI match, and became the youngest cricketer, male or female, to score a double century in One Day International cricket, when she scored 232 not out against Ireland. The double century was also the third-highest individual score, male or female, in an ODI, second-highest by a New Zealander and highest in a Women's ODI. Later in the same match, she also took 5 wickets for 17 runs, her first five-wicket haul in WODIs.
