Welcome To Bop City
''Welcome to Bop City'' is the first album from Swedish glam metal / hard rock band Shotgun Messiah, Kingpin, released in 1988 on the CMM (Club Mariann Music) label in Sweden and in 1989 on the Music For Nations label in the UK. The album was later remixed and released in 1989 under the band's new name Shotgun Messiah on Relativity Records in the US, charting respectably at #99 on Billboard (magazine), Billboard and selling close to half a million copies. It is the band's only album with Easy Action / Zan Clan singer Zinny J. Zan on vocals, who joined after hearing the band's early demos. The album was re-released on CD in 2008 on the Italian label Time Warp Records. Shotgun Messiah
Shotgun Messiah was a Swedish glam metal band originally from Skövde formed by guitarist Harry Cody, bassist Tim Skold, and drummer Stixx Galore. Cody and Skold were the mainstays of the band, and along with various personnel released three albums—''Shotgun Messiah'', ''Second Coming'' and ''Violent New Breed.'' Shotgun Messiah disbanded in 1993. History First era: 1985–1991 In 1985, the band formed in Skövde, Sweden, as Kingpin with the lineup of local musicians Tim Skold (going by "Tim Tim") (bass), Harry Cody (going by Harry K. Glam Metal
Glam metal (also known as hair metal or pop metal) is a subgenre of heavy metal that features pop-influenced hooks and guitar riffs, upbeat rock anthems, and slow power ballads. It borrows heavily from the fashion and image of 1970s glam rock. Early glam metal evolved directly from the glam rock movement of the 1970s, as visual elements taken from acts such as T. Hard Rock
Hard rock or heavy rock is a loosely defined subgenre of rock music typified by aggressive vocals and distorted electric guitars. Hard rock began in the mid-1960s with the garage, psychedelic and blues rock movements. Some of the earliest hard rock music was produced by the Kinks, the Who, The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Cream, Vanilla Fudge, and the Jimi Hendrix Experience. In the late 1960s, bands such as Blue Cheer, the Jeff Beck Group, Iron Butterfly, Led Zeppelin, Golden Earring, Steppenwolf and Deep Purple also produced hard rock. Music For Nations
Music For Nations (MFN) is a British independent record label focusing mainly on rock and metal. It was a subsidiary of the larger label distributor Zomba Records, which was a division of BMG and later Sony Music Entertainment. Launched in 1983 by Martin Hooker, Music For Nations established itself as a European leader in the rock and metal world, with early signings like Tank, Exciter, Metallica (who had three gold albums while on MFN), Slayer and Megadeth paving the way. As MFN grew, the company expanded its operation to include not just licensed acts from the United States, but its own signings. It released albums by artists including Paradise Lost, Opeth, Anathema, Cradle of Filth, Testament and countless other metal bands. Relativity Records
Relativity Records was an American record label founded by Barry Kobrin at the site of his company, Important Record Distributors (IRD) in metro New York. Relativity released music that covers a wide variety of musical genres. When it entered into a deal with Sony Music Entertainment, it became more known for its heavy metal and hip hop releases. Easy Action
''Easy Action'' is the second studio album by the American rock band Alice Cooper, released by Straight Records in March 1970. The title comes from a line from one of the band's favorite films, the musical ''West Side Story''. As with ''Pretties for You'', the band's debut from the previous year, ''Easy Action'' was neither a commercial nor critical success. Singles include "Shoe Salesman" and "Return of the Spiders". Drummer Neal Smith later said of the record producer David Briggs, "David hated our music and us. I recall the term that he used, referring to our music, was 'Psychedelic Shit'. Harry Cody (musician)
Harry Cody is a Swedish songwriter, composer, and guitarist. He was a founding member of the glam metal and industrial band Shotgun Messiah, before joining Coma and founding Das Cabal. He has recorded with Tom Waits, among others. Cody has composed scores for film and television commercials. Early life Cody was born in Surahammar and moved to Skövde at age seven. He grew up influenced by a variety of rock and roll guitar players such as Chuck Berry, Scotty Moore (Elvis Presley), and Eddie Van Halen, among others. After finishing school, Cody worked for Volvo, and also served in the Swedish army. He quit his job to focus on music. Career In 1983, Cody met Tim Skold, a bassist in Skövde, and they began playing together. Two years later, going by the name Harry K. Tim Sköld
Tim Skold (born Thim Sköld) is a Swedish musician and record producer who produces solo work and has also collaborated with multiple musical groups including Shotgun Messiah, KMFDM, Marilyn Manson and Motionless in White. Biography Early life Skold grew up in Timmersdala, 21 kilometres northwest of Skövde. He has a sister named Linda. Skold grew up in a very liberal setting as the son of a 15-year-old mother named Åse and a father trying to get by as a semi-professional drummer. At age 11, Skold joined a playback band (where the band mimes over recorded material). Skold's band would play for people at school meetings with Kiss, Bowie and Sweet songs playing on a cassette player. Skold first rented a bass guitar at age 12, and by the time he was 13, he was playing and singing in his first real band.
