The Olympic weightlifting, weightlifting competition at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul consisted of ten weight classes, all for men only. Medal summary 1 Mitko Grablev of Bulgaria originally won the gold medal, but he was disqualified after he tested positive for furosemide. 2 Angel Guenchev of Bulgaria originally won the gold medal, but he was disqualified after he tested positive for furosemide. 3 Andor Szanyi of Hungary originally won the silver medal, but was disqualified after he tested positive for stanozolol. Olympic Weightlifting Gymnasium
Olympic Weightlifting Gymnasium located in the Olympic Park area of Seoul, South Korea. It was constructed between August 1984 and April 1986, and hosted the weightlifting at the 1986 Asian Games and two years later the same sport at 1988 Summer Olympics. Yury Zakharevich
Yury Ivanovich Zakharevich (russian: Юрий Иванович Захаревич, born January 18, 1963) is a former Olympic weightlifter for the Soviet Union. He trained at Dynamo in Dimitrovgrad. Yury competed in the middle-heavyweight (90 kg), sub-heavyweight (100 kg) and heavyweight (110 kg) weight classes during his career. Yury Zakharevich has been described as one of the most technically gifted weightlifters of all time. In his analysis of the snatch technique of Yury Zakharevich, the biomechanist Robert Roman said that "Zakharevich raised the barbell in the snatch to "the minimal possible height of the lift lifters of his height can raise a barbell and still successfully fix it overhead." Nicolae "Nicu" Vlad (born 1 November 1963) is a retired heavyweight weightlifter from Romania. He competed for Romania at the 1984, 1988, 1992 and 1996 Olympics and won a gold, a silver and a bronze medal. He won the world title in 1984, 1986 and 1990 and European title in 1985 and 1986 and set world records in the snatch in 1986 and 1993. Anatoly Khrapaty
Anatoly Mikhaylovich Khrapaty (also Chrapaty, russian: Анатолий Михайлович Храпатый; 20 October 1962 – 11 August 2008) was a heavyweight weightlifter, Olympic Champion, and five time World Champion who competed for the Soviet Union and Kazakhstan. Between 1984 and 1996 he won a gold and a silver Olympic medal, as well as five worlds and five European titles. He also set five world records: one in the snatch, three in the clean and jerk and one in the total. Khrapaty retired after the 2000 Olympic Games to become a Kazakhstan national coach.
