The weightlifting competition at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles consisted of ten weight classes. The 1984 Summer Olympics boycott meant that the most dominant forces in weightlifting at the time, the USSR and Bulgaria did not take part. This left the field wide open. Gersten Pavilion
The Gersten Pavilion is a 3,900-seat multi-purpose arena in Los Angeles, California. It is the home of the Loyola Marymount Lions, Loyola Marymount University Lions. It was built in 1981 and has been used for home games by the university's Loyola Marymount Lions men's basketball, men's basketball, Loyola Marymount Lions women's basketball, women's basketball, and volleyball teams since January 1982. It was also the part-time practice home for the Los Angeles Lakers. It was the site for the Weightlifting at the 1984 Summer Olympics, weightlifting competition for the 1984 Summer Olympics. Nicolae "Nicu" Vlad (born 1 November 1963) is a retired heavyweight weightlifter from Romania. He competed for Romania at the 1984, 1988, 1992 and 1996 Olympics and won a gold, a silver and a bronze medal. He won the world title in 1984, 1986 and 1990 and European title in 1985 and 1986 and set world records in the snatch in 1986 and 1993. Robert Kabbas (born 15 March 1955, in Alexandria, Egypt) is a retired weightlifter from Australia, who won the silver medal in the Lightheavyweight (82.5 kg) category at the 1984 Summer Olympics. Kabbas has been one of the most successful weightlifters to represent Australia at the Commonwealth Games. He went to three Olympic Games: Montreal 1976, Moscow 1980 and Los Angeles in 1984. He was the first of only two Australian weightlifters to compete at three Olympics. Dragomir A. Cioroslan (born 15 May 1954) is a former three-time Olympian, Olympic bronze medalist middleweight weightlifter born in Romania. He has lived in the United States since 1990. He competed at the 1976, 1980, and 1984 Olympics and won a bronze medal in 1984. Cioroslan won 10 national championships titles in his native Romania from 1974 to 1983.
