Weightlifting At The 2014 Commonwealth Games – Women's 53 Kg
The Women's 53 kg weightlifting event was the second-lightest women's event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, limiting competitors to a maximum of of body mass. The competition took place on 25 July and was the first weightlifting event to conclude. The event took place at the Clyde Auditorium. The event was originally won by 16-year-old Chika Amalaha of Nigeria. Following a failed doping test, Amalaha was stripped of her medal and placement, and the medals were redistributed. Phillipa Hale
Phillipa Jean "Pip" Patterson (née Hale, born 8 December 1984) is a weightlifter from New Zealand. Patterson was a gymnast from the age of five to 14, before changing to crossfit and weightlifting. She competed in the 2014 Commonwealth Games, finishing fifth in the women's under 53 kg weight category. She also competed in the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Erika Yuriko Iris Yamasaki (born 2 September 1987) is an Australian weightlifter. The daughter of Minoru Yamasaki and Ann Alvisio, she started Weightlifting in 2000, when she was tested in a talent identification program, along with her brother John Yamasaki. Erika first started to represent Australia in 2003 at the Oceania Championships, Niue Island. She has now competed at several international events, including Oceania Championships, World Championships, World Cup, Commonwealth Championships, Pacific and Commonwealth Games. She represented Australia at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. She finished in 12th place in the women's 59 kg event. Loa Dika Toua (born 23 June 1984) is a Papua New Guinean Olympian weightlifter. She competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics, in Women's −49 kg. She competes regularly in the 53 kg weight class. She is a 12 time, and current, Oceania titlist and a Commonwealth titlist. She is also the current Pacific Games champion. Chika Joy Amalaha (born 28 October 1997) is a Nigerian weightlifter. In 2019 she tested positive for metenolone and is banned until 2027 by the International Weightlifting Federation. 2014 Commonwealth Games Amalaha won the gold medal in the women's 53 kg weight class at the 2014 Commonwealth Games at Glasgow, and set a new Games records in 53 kg weight category in both the snatch and overall elements. She later failed a drug test, and was temporarily banned from continuing the Games on 29 July 2014 after Amiloride and Hydrochlorothiazide were found in her A sample. Her B sample was then sent for testing the following day, which returned positive to prohibited substances. The 2014 Commonwealth Games ( gd, Geamannan a' Cho-fhlaitheis 2014), officially known as the XX Commonwealth Games and commonly known as Glasgow 2014, ( sco, Glesca 2014 or Glesga 2014; gd, Glaschu 2014), was an international multi-sport event celebrated in the tradition of the Commonwealth Games as governed by the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF).
