The Men's First-heavyweight Weightlifting Event (– 100 kg) is the third heaviest men's event at the weightlifting competition, limiting competitors to a maximum of 100.0 kilograms of body mass. The competition took place on 2 August in the Pavelló de l'Espanya Industrial The Pavelló de l'Espanya Industrial ( en, Industrial Spain Pavilion), currently named Centre Esportiu Municipal l'Espanya Industrial is a building located in Barcelona. Completed in 1991, it hosted the weightlifting competitions for the 1992 Summ .... Each lifter performed in both the snatch and clean and jerk lifts, with the final score being the sum of the lifter's best result in each. The athlete received three attempts in each of the two lifts; the score for the lift was the heaviest weight successfully lifted. Ties were broken by the lifter with the lightest body weight. Sam Nunuke Pera
Sam Nunuke Pera (born 4 April 1969 in Rarotonga) is a retired Cook Islands weightlifter. He represented the Cook Islands in three editions of the Olympic Games (1992, 1996, and 2004), and has been named the nation's sportsman of the year five times. Pera is also the father of Sam Pera, Jr., who later competed in the same weightlifting division at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Pera made his official debut in the men's first heavyweight class (100 kg) at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, where he failed to lift 105 kg for three successive attempts in the single-motion snatch. At the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Pera recovered from a setback with a twenty-fourth-place finish in the men's 99 kg class, lifting a total of 285 kg (120 in the snatch and 165 in the clean and jerk). Andor Szanyi
Andor Szanyi is a weightlifter who competed for Hungary. His entire career has been marred by controversy after he was stripped of the silver medal at the 1988 Summer Olympics for cheating. He claimed the gold medal at the 1985 World Weightlifting Championships in Södertalje, Sweden in the 100 kg category. He also claimed bronze medals at the next two world championships in Sofia and Ostrava respectively, and was European Champion in 1987 and bronze medalist in 1985, 1988 and 1991. Wesley ("Wes") T. Barnett (born April 1, 1970, in Saint Joseph, Missouri) was a two-time Olympic weightlifter for the United States. His coaches were Dennis Snethen, Istvan Javorek at Johnson County Community College and Dragomir Ciroslan.
