Weekend In Taipei
''Weekend in Taipei'' is a 2024 French action film directed by George Huang and co-written with Luc Besson. Starring Luke Evans, Gwei Lun-mei, and Sung Kang, the film was filmed and set in Taiwan. It centers around an American DEA agent, John Lawlor (Evans), who reunites with a Taipei-based mercenary driver, Joey Kwang (Gwei), and becomes entangled in a romantic relationship with her. The film had its world premiere at Vieshow Cinemas Xinyi in Taipei, Taiwan on 1 September 2024, and is set to release theatrically in France and Taiwan on 25 September. Premise John Lawlor, a committed American Drug Enforcement Administration agent, fell in love with Joey Kwang, a Taipei-based transporter, but was forced to separate due to the disruption of criminal and corruption activities. 15 years later, the duo is reunited when Lawlor is on a mission in Taipei. George Huang (director)
George Jay Huang is an American film director, writer, producer, and educator. He is best known for writing and directing the 1994 film ''Swimming with Sharks.'' In addition to working on his own films, he also contributes work to other independent filmmakers, including Robert Rodríguez. Early life The son of Taiwanese immigrants, George Huang grew up with an avid love of motion pictures. After high school, he originally enrolled at the University of California, Berkeley to pursue a degree in business, but during this time he interned at Lucasfilm. After undergrad, he enrolled in a producing program at the University of Southern California. The Taipei Performing Arts Center (TPAC; ) is a performance center in Shilin District, Taipei, Taiwan. History The construction of the center began on 28 February 2012. The center construction topped out on 27 August 2014. On 31 August 2016, the center facade was revealed. The structure was constructed with a cost of NT$5.4 billion. On 11 January 2022, it was announced that the center will have its trial opening in March–May 2022.
