Water Polo At The 2011 Pan American Games
Water polo at the 2011 Pan American Games was held from October 23 to October 29, 2011, at the Scotiabank Aquatics Center in Guadalajara, Mexico. Each men's and women's team consisted of 13 athletes. Therefore, a total of 208 athletes competed in water polo at these games. The winner of each tournament (the United States) qualified to compete at the Water polo at the 2012 Summer Olympics, 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Great Britain, while the second through fourth-place finishers in each tournament qualified for the last chance qualifying tournament. Scotiabank Aquatics Center
The Scotiabank Aquatics Center is an aquatics center built for the 2011 Pan American Games in the municipality of Zapopan, near Guadalajara, Mexico. It was opened June 22, 2011, built at a cost of $USD31.7m (380 million pesos). It is the most modern aquatic complex of its kind in Latin America, and considered to be the second best in the world by the Fédération Internationale de Natation. It has a permanent capacity 3,593, but will have a capacity of 5,000 spectators for the Pan American Games. The outside of the building is shaped like a wave. It contains two 50m Olympic sized pools and a diving tank. During the 2011 Pan America Games it will host the swimming, diving, synchronized swimming and water polo. After the Pan American Games it will used as a high performance training centre, and for the 2017 World Aquatics Championships. Layne Beaubien
Ronald Layne Beaubien (born July 4, 1976) is an American water polo player. He was a member of the United States men's national water polo team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. In the championship game, the USA team won the silver medal, after defeat by Hungary. Considered to be one of the top all-around players in the world during his career, Beaubien boasted one of the strongest shooting arms on Team USA for over a decade. During his 15-year career he competed in three Summer Olympic Games (Athens '04, Beijing '08, London '12), five World Championships (Fukuoka '01, Barcelona '03, Melbourne '07, Rome '09, Shanghai '11), and played in the professional leagues of Hungary, Greece, France, and Brazil. Kevin Graham
Kevin Graham (born April 21, 1986 in Regina, Saskatchewan) is a Canadian water polo player. He was a member of the Canada men's national water polo team at the 2008 Summer Olympics. The team finished 11th out of the 12 teams in the tournament. Graham is slated to suit up for Egri Vízilabda Klub in the Hungarian League for 2010. In 2008 and 2009 he played as a driver and hole checker for the club team PVK Jadran in Herceg Novi, Montenegro. Graham is enrolled in the Haskayne School of Business' Bachelor of Commerce program at the University of Calgary. Aaron Feltham (born April 16, 1982, in Goderich, Ontario) is a Canadian water polo player. Feltham's professional career began at the age of 16, when he left home to play for the Ottawa Titans. Feltham played two years apiece with the Canada B water polo team and the junior national team. In 2007-08, he played in the top men's division in Hungary with Brendon ZF UPC Eger. John Conway (water Polo)
John Horton Conway (26 December 1937 – 11 April 2020) was an English mathematician active in the theory of finite groups, knot theory, number theory, combinatorial game theory and coding theory. He also made contributions to many branches of recreational mathematics, most notably the invention of the cellular automaton called the Game of Life. Born and raised in Liverpool, Conway spent the first half of his career at the University of Cambridge before moving to the United States, where he held the John von Neumann Professorship at Princeton University for the rest of his career. Justin Boyd (water Polo)
Justin Boyd (born 23 April 1989) is a water polo player of Canada, living in Beaconsfield. Career Boyd started playing water polo when he was twelve years old. At the 2008 Summer Olympics he was the youngest member of the Canadian water polo team. Boyd has since been a part of three FINA World Championship teams (2009, 2011, 2013), with the best result coming in Rome in 2009 when the men finished eighth. He was also part of the silver medal-winning squad at the 2011 Pan Am Games in Guadalajara. Brian Alexander (born May 3, 1983) is a former American water polo player who was a member of the United States men's national water polo team. Playing career Youth and collegiate Alexander competed with Foothill High School, where he was named to the All-CIF Division I boys water polo team after scoring 91 goals in his senior year. Alexander played collegiate water polo at the University of California, Santa Barbara. He was named a 3rd team All-American in 2003 and 2004 while playing with the Gauchos. Professional Alexander started his professional career in Spain in 2005 with Spain's Aguas De Valencia.
