Water Polo At The 1973 World Aquatics Championships – Men's Tournament
The 1973 Men's World Water Polo Championship was the first edition of the men's water polo tournament at the World Aquatics Championships, organised by the world governing body in aquatics, the FINA. The tournament was held from 1 to 9 September 1973, and was incorporated into the inaugural 1973 World Aquatics Championships in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. István Szívós (water Polo, Born 1948)
István Antal Szívós, also known as István Szívós Jr. ( hu, ifj. Szívós István, 24 April 1948 – 10 November 2019) was a Hungary, Hungarian water polo player. He competed in four consecutive Olympics in 1968–1980 and won a medal in each of them, becoming one of eight male athletes who won List of men's Olympic water polo tournament records and statistics#Multiple medalists, four or more Olympic medals in water polo. He also won six gold or silver medals at world and European championships and nine national titles. Between 1966 and 1980 he played 308 international matches for Hungary. In 1996 he was inducted to the International Swimming Hall of Fame, one year earlier than his father István Szívós (water polo, born 1920), István Sr., who won Olympic gold medals in water polo in 1952 and 1956. István Görgényi (born 2 November 1946) is a Hungarian former water polo player who won a silver medal at the 1972 Summer Olympics and coached the Australian women's national water polo team to the gold medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Playing career Gorgenyi represented Hungary as a player 96 times and was a member of teams that won the silver medal at 1972 Munich Olympics, won the gold medal at the 1973 World Championships, the silver medal at the 1975 World Championships and won the gold medal at the 1974 European Water Polo Championship. He retired at 36 and took up coaching 18 months later. Coaching career From 1984 to 1990, he was Head Coach of Ujpest TE Sporting Club in the Hungarian National League from 1984 to 1990. Tamás Faragó (born 5 August 1952) is a former Hungarian water polo player. He competed in all major international tournaments between 1970 and 1980 and won three medals at the Summer Olympics and five at the world and European championships. He was the top goalscorer at the 1976 Olympics, with 22 goals. After retiring from competitions he became a water polo coach, guiding Hungary's junior and women's national teams. In 1993 he was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame, and in 2005 he was voted the Hungarian coach of the year. András Bodnár (born April 9, 1942) is a former Hungarian water polo player and freestyle swimmer who competed in the 1960 Summer Olympics, 1964 Summer Olympics, 1968 Summer Olympics and 1972 Summer Olympics. He is one of eight male athletes who won four or more Olympic medals in water polo. Bodnár was born in Ungvár, Kingdom of Hungary. He was part of the Hungarian water polo team which won the bronze medal in the 1960 tournament. He played one match and scored one goal. He also participated in the 1500 metre freestyle competition but was eliminated in the first round. Four years later he was a member of the Hungarian team which won the gold medal in the 1964 Olympic tournament. He played five matches and scored two goals.
