Washington Native Plant Society
The Washington Native Plant Society (WNPS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and appreciation of the native plants of the U.S. state of Washington. The society advocates for the protection of species, their habitats, and general environmental quality. WNPS also works in cooperation with other non-profit groups, such as the Seattle Audubon Society on public education and advocacy efforts. In biogeography, a native species is indigenous to a given region or ecosystem if its presence in that region is the result of only local natural evolution (though often popularised as "with no human intervention") during history. The term is equivalent to the concept of indigenous or autochthonous species. The National Audubon Society (Audubon; ) is an American non-profit environmental organization dedicated to conservation of birds and their habitats. Located in the United States and incorporated in 1905, Audubon is one of the oldest of such organizations in the world. There are completely independent Audubon Societies in the United States, which were founded several years earlier such as the Massachusetts Audubon Society and Connecticut Audubon Society.
