Washington's 19th Legislative District
Washington's 19th legislative district is one of forty-nine districts in Washington state for representation in the state legislature. The district includes the western extreme of the state south of the Olympic Peninsula and runs from Aberdeen to Longview. This mostly rural district is represented by state senator Jeff Wilson and state representatives Jim Walsh (position 1) and Joel McEntire (position 2), all Republicans. The Washington State Legislature is the state legislature of the U.S. state of Washington. It is a bicameral body, composed of the lower Washington House of Representatives, composed of 98 Representatives, and the upper Washington State Senate, with 49 Senators plus the Lieutenant Governor acting as president. Olympic Peninsula
The Olympic Peninsula is a large arm of land in western Washington that lies across Puget Sound from Seattle, and contains Olympic National Park. It is bounded on the west by the Pacific Ocean, the north by the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and the east by Hood Canal. Cape Alava, the westernmost point in the contiguous United States, and Cape Flattery, the northwesternmost point, are on the peninsula. Comprising about , the Olympic Peninsula contained many of the last unexplored places in the contiguous United States. Aberdeen, Washington
Aberdeen () is a city in Grays Harbor County, Washington, United States. The population was 17,013 at the 2020 census. The city is the economic center of Grays Harbor County, bordering the cities of Hoquiam and Cosmopolis. Aberdeen is occasionally referred to as the "Gateway to the Olympic Peninsula". History Aberdeen was named after a local salmon cannery to reflect its Scottish fishing port namesake Aberdeen, and, like Scotland, Aberdeen is situated at the mouth of two rivers - the Chehalis and the Wishkah. Longview, Washington
Longview is a city in Cowlitz County, Washington, United States. It is the principal city of the Longview, Washington Metropolitan Statistical Area, which encompasses all of Cowlitz County. Longview's population was 37,818 at the time of the 2020 census, making it the largest city in Cowlitz County. The city is located in southwestern Washington, at the junction of the Cowlitz and Columbia rivers. Longview shares a border with Kelso to the east, which is the county seat. Jeff Wilson (Washington Politician)
Stephen Jeffrey Wilson (born 1959 or 1960) is an American businessman and politician of the Republican Party. In 2020, he was elected to the Washington State Senate to represent the 19th legislative district and took office on January 11, 2021. Wilson is also a Port of Longview commissioner. Firearm incident Wilson was arrested and charged with unlicensed possession of a firearm in Hong Kong on October 21, 2023, after being found with a revolver at the Hong Kong International Airport. The gun was legally licensed in Washington State, but not in Hong Kong. According to Wilson, he discovered the unloaded firearm in his carry-on luggage mid-flight. Jim Walsh (Washington Politician)
James W. Walsh (born 1964) is a Republican member of the Washington State House of Representatives. Walsh attended Amherst College, graduating cum laude in 1986. He formed a small publishing company in 1998 that he continues to operate today. He lives in Aberdeen with the youngest of his five children, who attends school in the area. His wife was killed in a car crash on October 24, 2022, after she swerved into the lane of a logging truck on Highway 101. He was first elected to the state legislature in 2016. Washington Redistricting Commission
The Washington Redistricting Commission is a decennial body charged with redrawing congressional and legislative districts in the state of Washington after each census. On November 8, 1983, Washington state passed the 74th amendment to its constitution via Senate Joint Resolution 103 to permanently establish the Redistricting Commission. Earlier that year the first commission redrew the state's congressional map after the previous one drawn by the legislature was ruled unconstitutional. The Washington State Senate is the upper house of the Washington State Legislature. The body consists of 49 members, each representing a district with a population of nearly 160,000. The State Senate meets at the Legislative Building in Olympia. As with the lower House of Representatives, state senators serve without term limits, though senators serve four-year terms.
