Ward Family House
Ward Family House is a historic home located near Sugar Grove, Watauga County, North Carolina. It was built about 1897, and is a two-story, Queen Anne style frame dwelling. It is sheathed in novelty German siding and gables with five rows of diamond-edge wood shingles. Atop the roof is a cupola located between asymmetrically placed brick chimneys with stucco panels. A one-story rear ell was added in the 1980s. Sugar Grove is an unincorporated community, North Carolina, unincorporated community located in Watauga County, North Carolina, Watauga County, North Carolina, United States. It is named after the Acer saccharum, sugar maples that grow in the area. The community is located along U.S. Route 321, US 321, west of Vilas, North Carolina, Vilas and Boone, North Carolina, Boone, along the banks of Cove Creek. History Sugar Grove was founded in 1837, when John Mast opened the Sugar Grove Post Office; that year he reported a revenue of $14. During the Civil War, Company E of the 37th Confederate Regiment was organized September, 1861. Between 1864 and 1865, the home guard battalion of Watauga was stationed at Camp Mast, nearby Sugar Grove.
