Walter Currie (educator)
Walter Currie (1922-2014) was an educator and public advocate. He was part of the movement after the Second World War advocating for Indigenous educational reform at the local and national level in Canada. History Walter Currie was born in Chatham, Ontario in 1922. The son of William and Clara Currie, he was a non-status Indian of Potowatomi and Ojibwe descent. He served three years in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War Two, and later studied engineering at the University of Toronto, before leaving his studies early to support his young family. He would later complete his degree at the University of Windsor and go on to complete his teacher's certificate at London's Teachers College. He was a school teacher in Kitchener and principal at Danesbury Public School in North York Township between 1953 and 1968. Walter Clyde Curry (1887 - October 2, 1967) was an American academic, medievalist, and poet. He was a member of the Fugitives and the author of four books. Early life Walter Clyde Curry was born in 1887 in Gray Court, South Carolina. He graduated from Wofford College, and he earned a master's degree and PhD from Stanford University. Career Curry joined the English department at Vanderbilt University in 1915. A poet, he became a member of the Fugitives under the penname of Marpha in the 1920s. He taught at Peabody College from 1930 to 1941. He was the chair of the English department at Vanderbilt University from 1941 to 1955. On his retirements, his former students, including Cleanth Brooks, published a volume of essays about Curry's scholarship. Curry was a medievalist, and a member of the Medieval Academy of America. James Walter Curry
James Walter Curry (May 11, 1856 – May 5, 1924) was an Ontario barrister and political figure. He represented Toronto Southeast in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1919 to 1923 as a Liberal member. He was born in Port Hope, Canada West, the son of James Curry. Curry practiced law in Port Hope, Millbrook and Toronto, where he became head of a law firm. He was also president of the Toronto Lacrosse Club. In 1884, he married Amy May Eyre. He served as Crown Attorney in Toronto from 1892 to 1906. He ran unsuccessfully for a seat in the provincial assembly in 1908.
