Walt Disney's Treasury Of Classic Tales (hardcover Book Collection)
Walt Disney's ''Treasury of Classic Tales'' is a series of hardcover books that collects the Sunday comic strips of Walt Disney's '' Treasury of Classic Tales'', an umbrella title for comic strips which were drawn by several different Disney artists during the period of the early 1950s to the mid-1980s. The ''Treasury of Classic Tales'' comic strips were used by Walt Disney Studios to introduce current movie characters into comic adaptations for the public. The books are being published by IDW Publishing's imprint, ''The Library of American Comics''. The first book of the series was released in November 2016. In April 2018, it was announced that, due to the sales goal of the series not being met, the third volume may be the last one to be published. ''Peter and the Wolf'' is a 1946 animated short based on the 1936 musical composition/fairy tale by Sergei Prokofiev, produced by Walt Disney and narrated by Sterling Holloway. It was originally released theatrically as a segment in ''Make Mine Music''. It was re-issued the following year accompanying a re-issue of ''Fantasia'' (as a short subject before the film), then released separately on home video in the 1990s. Background Prokofiev, while touring the West in 1938, visited Los Angeles and met Walt Disney. ''Rob Roy: The Highland Rogue'' is a 1953 adventure film produced by RKO-Walt Disney British Productions which is about Rob Roy MacGregor. It was the last Disney film released through RKO Radio Pictures. Plot The film begins in the early 18th century with Rob Roy leading his McGregor clansmen against King George I's forces commanded by the Scottish Duke of Argyll. ''Ben and Me'' is a 1953 American animated two-reel short subject produced by Walt Disney Productions and released theatrically on November 10, 1953. It was adapted from the children's book written by author/illustrator Robert Lawson and first published in 1939. Though both book and film deal with the relationship between a mouse and American Founding Father Benjamin Franklin, the book, with illustrations by Lawson, focused more heavily on actual historical events and personages, and included incidents from Franklin's French career at Versailles. Michael Barrier (historian)
Michael J. Barrier (born June 15, 1940) is an American animation historian. Work Barrier was the founder and editor of ''Funnyworld'', the first magazine exclusively devoted to comics and animation. It began as a contribution to the CAPA-Alpha amateur press association. Beginning in 1970 it expanded to being a magazine of general circulation that eventually had a print run of several thousand before ceasing publication in the early 1980s. Barrier was also an early champion of the work of comic book artist Carl Barks, in a period when comic book fandom was mostly devoted to the celebration of superheroes and tended to denigrate talking animal comics. Barrier serialized a bibliography of Barks' work in ''Funnyworld'' and in 1968 contributed an extensive essay analyzing Barks' work to the seventh issue of the Don and Maggie Thompsons' pioneering fanzine ''Comic Art''. While the history of animation began much earlier, this article is concerned with the development of the medium after the emergence of celluloid film in 1888, as produced for theatrical screenings, television and (non-interactive) home entertainment.
