Wales At The 2022 Commonwealth Games
Wales competed at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England, between 28 July and 8 August 2022. Having competed at every Games since their 1930 inauguration, it was Wales' twenty-second appearance. Geraint Thomas and Tesni Evans served as the delegation's flagbearers during the opening ceremony. Rosie Eccles carried the flag at the closing ceremony. Medal tables Wales finished tenth in the medal table, with a total of 28 medals, including 8 golds. Commonwealth Games Wales
Wales is one of six countries to have competed in every Commonwealth Games since 1930, the others being Australia, Canada, England, New Zealand and Scotland. At the Commonwealth Games, Wales takes part as a separate entity, as in the Six Nations Rugby Championship, Rugby World Cup and international association football competitions. In other events, such as the Olympic Games, they compete under the banner of the United Kingdom. Commonwealth Games Wales ( cy, Gemau'r Gymanwlad Cymru) (formerly the 'Commonwealth Games Council for Wales'), manages the team's entry to the games and supports Welsh athletes in their participation. Lawn bowls was among the sports contested at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, to be held in England. This was the twenty-first staging of lawn bowls at the Commonwealth Games having featured in every Games bar 1966, and the third staging within England specifically. The competition was scheduled to take place between 29 July and 6 August 2022, spread across eleven events (including three parasport events). Gemma Frizelle
Gemma Natasha Frizelle (born 2 May 1998) is a Welsh rhythmic gymnast, who won the individual hoop event at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. She has won multiple medals at the Welsh and British Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships, and also competed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. Career Frizelle took up rhythmic gymnastics at the age of 12. She trains at Llanelli Rhythmic Gymnastics Academy. She finished second at the 2015 Welsh Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships, as well as the all-around events at the 2016 and 2017 British Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships. Frizelle competed at the 2018 Commonwealth Games. She finished 15th in the individual all-around competition, and was part of the Welsh team that finished fifth in the team all-around event. Aled Davies (field Athlete)
Aled Siôn Davies (born 24 May 1991) is a Welsh Paralympian athlete competing mainly in category F42 throwing events. In 2012 he became the world record holder of the F42 shot put and in the 2012 Summer Paralympics he took the bronze medal in shot put and gold in the discus. In 2013 Davies took the World Championship gold in both the shot put and discus in Lyon. He won double gold in his home country at the 2014 IPC Athletics European Championships in the shot put and discus. This followed his silver medal in the F42-44 discus from the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow where he represented Wales.
