Waldeck-Frankenberg is a ''Kreis'' (district) in the north of Hesse, Germany. Neighbouring districts are Höxter, Kassel, Schwalm-Eder, Marburg-Biedenkopf, Siegen-Wittgenstein, Hochsauerland. History The district was created in 1972 by merging the two districts of Frankenberg and Waldeck. Most of the area of the district was previously part of the ''Freistaat Waldeck'', the successor of the principality of Waldeck. Edersee Panorama Waldeck
The Edersee, also known as the Ederstausee, is an reservoir in Waldeck-Frankenberg, Hesse, Germany with of storage space. It has the 2nd largest area (behind the Forggensee), and the 3rd largest volume (behind the Bleilochstausee and Rurstausee), of all reservoirs in Germany. It is located on the Fulda Tributary of Eder behind the Edersee Dam near the town of Waldeck in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district of North Hesse. The Eder Dam (dam and reservoir) is owned by the Federal Waterways and Shipping Administration, with the Hann. Münden Waterways and Shipping Office being responsible. Allendorf (Eder)
Allendorf (Eder) () is a municipality which situated in the north west of Hesse, Germany. The municipality is within the Waldeck-Frankenberg district in a rural region called the upper Eder Valley. The Burgwald range is located west of Allendorf while the Breite Struth hills are in Allendorf's east. With regard to towns, Allendorf lies to the east of Frankenberg/Eder (12 km) and to the west of Battenberg (2.6 km) and Biedenkopf (21 km). Lichtenfels is a small town in Waldeck-Frankenberg district in northwest Hesse, Germany. Geography Location Lichtenfels lies at the northeast foot of the Rothaargebirge, some southwest of Kassel. Frankenberg an der Eder is a town in Waldeck-Frankenberg district, Hesse, Germany. The mountain at a ford over the Eder north of the Burgwald range was for a long time a fortified place, playing an especially important role under the Franks in the Saxon Wars. The town was built in 1233-1234 by the Thuringian Landgrave at the junction of two trade routes. The renovated Old and New Town have many half-timbered houses. Diemelstadt is a small town in Waldeck-Frankenberg district in Hesse, Germany. Geography Location Diemelstadt lies in a small "bay" of Hesse that thrusts into, and is surrounded on three sides by, North Rhine-Westphalia. The River Diemel, the town's namesake, does not cross through the municipal area, forming only parts of the town limits, and at the same time parts of the boundary between Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia. One river that does cross through the municipal area, however, is the Orpe, a north-flowing tributary to the Diemel that empties into the larger river at the northern town limits.
