Programming and history Before becoming WKVZ in 2009, the 102.1 FM frequency in Dexter was an oldies station using the call letters WGUY-FM, which went on the air in 1993. In December 2001, the station changed to a satellite smooth jazz format, then reverted to the oldies format in March 2003. In September 2008, it began simulcasting on co-owned WFZX before being sold to Educational Media Foundation and changing formats in February 2009 to K-LOVE's christian music format. The stations is owned by the Educational Media Foundation. The station carries Educational Media Foundation's K-LOVE Christian music format, simulcasting co-owned WKVZ. History Prior to simulcasting K-LOVE, the station was an oldies station simulcasting co-owned WGUY and a modern rock station, owned by Clear Channel Broadcasting. Over Clear Channel's nearly 7 years of ownership the station shifted from classic rock to modern rock, all while carrying the syndicated Bob & Tom Show. WBFB (97.1 MHz, "97-1 The Bear") is a commercial FM radio station in Bangor, Maine. The station is owned by Blueberry Broadcasting and airs a country music radio format, simulcast on sister stations WBFE in Bar Harbor and WMCM in Rockland. The transmitter is off Maine State Route 9 in Dixmont, Maine, using the same tower as WABI-TV. The studios and offices are on Target Industrial Circle in Bangor. WBFB begins each weekday with the syndicated, Nashville-based ''Bobby Bones Show'' from Premiere Networks. Local disc jockeys handle the other hours of the day. On Sunday mornings, ''Bob Kingsley's Country Top 40'' is heard. Car races from the Motor Racing Network are heard on some weekends. Dexter, Maine
Dexter is a town in Penobscot County, Maine, United States. The population was 3,803 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Bangor metropolitan statistical area. Dexter Regional High School, which serves Dexter as well as other nearby small towns, is located in the town. History Dexter was settled beginning in 1801 by Ebenezer Small, David Smith, and others from New Hampshire, and was originally called Elkinstown. When incorporated as a town in 1816, it named itself after Judge Samuel Dexter, who was then running for governor of Massachusetts (of which Maine was still a part). The town of Brooks in nearby Waldo County was incorporated the same year and named for the opposing candidate, John Brooks. Brooks won the election.
