WEGO (AM)
WEGO (1410 AM) is a radio station licensed to serve Concord, North Carolina, which simulcasts WSAT in Salisbury, North Carolina. History The 1410 spot on the dial was first heard from Concord in 1942. WEGO was owned by Wayne M. Nelson, who constructed the station's studios along Highway 29 (now Concord Parkway), just west of the city. In 1953, the city's newspaper, ''The Concord Tribune'' (now Independent-Tribune) purchased the station. Over the next few years WEGO began airing local newscasts, in addition to the Associated Press wire stories and the T-N News Network. In 1960, The Tribune sold WEGO to the Suburban Radio Group of Belmont, North Carolina, which began the station's greatest period of growth and popularity. In 1961, WEGO-FM was launched, and a few years later, General Manager Jim Keel renamed it WPEG,the call letters of a newly acquired SRG station in Winston Salem,NC. WQNO
WQNO is a station based in New Orleans, Louisiana. The station is owned by Catholic Community Radio, Inc. and broadcasts at 690 kHz with a power level of 9,100 watts daytime and 2,100 watts nighttime. The station mostly runs Roman Catholic programming from EWTN radio. The facilities of the station, previously called WTIX, were severely damaged by Hurricane Katrina in late August 2005. The station had the target date to resume broadcasting on December 1, and in November requested the new letters WIST. Other stations have used the WTIX letters in the years since 2005. On November 6, 2014 WQNO was granted a Federal Communications Commission construction permit to decrease day power to 9,100 watts and decrease night power to 2,100 watts. William John Bennett (born July 31, 1943) is an American conservative politician and political commentator who served as secretary of education from 1985 to 1988 under President Ronald Reagan. He also held the post of director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy under George H. W. Bush. Tradio is a type of talk radio show format, though now considered archaic, where listeners call in to buy or sell items. The concept is analogous to classified ads in local newspapers and most prevalent in the south and midwest. "Tradio" is a portmanteau of "trade" and "radio". WAVO (1150 AM) is a non-profit radio station licensed to Rock Hill, South Carolina and serving the Charlotte metropolitan area. Programming is simulcast from 106.9 WMIT Black Mountain, North Carolina, a listener-supported ministry of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. WAVO and WMIT air a mix of Contemporary Christian music with some Christian talk and teaching programs, including national religious leaders Jim Daly, John MacArthur, David Jeremiah, Chuck Swindoll and Charles Stanley. WMIT's radio studios and offices are on Porters Cove Road in Asheville. By day, WAVO is powered at 5,000 watts, using a non-directional antenna.
