WACA (AM)
WACA is a Spanish news/talk formatted broadcast radio station licensed to Laurel, Maryland, serving the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. It is owned by Alejandro Carrasco, through licensee ACR Media, Inc. 900 AM is a Canadian and Mexican clear-channel frequency. History From 1965 to the early 1980s, the station (then WLMD) broadcast a succession of formats in English; several radio personalities began their careers with the station. Before 1969, WLMD was a MOR (Middle Of The Road) formatted radio station and held to the model created by WMAL and WBAL in Washington and Baltimore, respectively. Its dismal ratings, primarily due to being a relatively low power AM station only broadcasting during the day with a poor coverage area, led to a format change beginning in 1975. WDON (1540 AM) is a radio station broadcasting on 1540 kHz in the medium wave AM band, airing Spanish-language Catholic programming known as ''Radio Vida en Abundancia'' (Life in Abundance Radio). Its transmitter is located in Wheaton, Maryland, and it serves the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. WDON has a daytime transmitter power of 5,000 watts, reaching as far north as Frederick County in Maryland and as far south as Stafford and Prince William Counties in Virginia. History Early history (1953–1981) Founded by Everett L. Dillard, WDON first signed on December 4, 1953 with a daytime-only, 250-watt signal. WACA Ground
The WACA (formally the WACA Ground) is a sports stadium in Perth, Western Australia. The stadium's name derives from the initials of its owners and operators, the Western Australian Cricket Association. The WACA has been referred to as Western Australia's "home of cricket" since the early 1890s, with Test cricket played at the ground since the 1970–71 season. The ground is the home venue of Western Australia's first-class cricket team, the Western Warriors, and the state's Women's National Cricket League side, the Western Fury. The Perth Scorchers, a Big Bash League franchise, played home matches at the ground until 2019. The West African Court of Appeal (WACA) was a court which served as the appellate court for the British colonies of Gold Coast, Nigeria, Gambia, and Sierra Leone. History The WACA was first established in 1867 as the appellate court for British possessions in western Africa. It was abolished in 1874, but was revived in 1928. Jurisdiction over Nigeria was ended in 1954. The court became defunct with the independence of the states which it served. The court was based in Sierra Leone. The Western Australian Cricket Association (known as the WACA) is the governing body for cricket in Western Australia. The WACA was formed on 5 November 1885. In 1893 the association opened the WACA Ground. Elite cricket The WACA is responsible for managing Western Australia's first-class cricket male team in the Sheffield Shield and Marsh Cup and female team in the Women's National Cricket League (WNCL). In the Big Bash League and Women's Big Bash League, the WACA is represented by the Perth Scorchers & Perth Scorchers (Women) respectively. Competitions The WACA is responsible for administering Western Australian Premier Cricket.
