W. S. Kennedy Jones
Walter Selby Kennedy Jones (July 24, 1919 – June 5, 1978) was a lawyer and political figure in Nova Scotia. He represented Queens in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1953 to 1971 as a Progressive Conservative member. He was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, the son of Charles H. L. Jones and Elizabeth Kennedy, and was educated at King's College and Dalhousie University. In 1942, he married Anne Seaborne. He was named Speaker of the House of Assembly of Nova Scotia in 1957. Executive Council Of Nova Scotia
The Executive Council of Nova Scotia (informally and more commonly, the Cabinet of Nova Scotia) is the cabinet of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. Almost always made up of members of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly, the Cabinet is similar in structure and role to the Canadian Cabinet while being smaller in size with different portfolios. The Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, as representative of the King in Right of Nova Scotia, heads the council, and is referred to as the Governor-in-Council. Other members of the Cabinet, who advise, or minister, the viceroy, are selected by the Premier of Nova Scotia and appointed by the Lieutenant-Governor. Most cabinet ministers are the head of a ministry, but this is not always the case. The Speaker for the House of Assembly of Nova Scotia is the presiding Officer of the House of Assembly. Keith Bain is the current Speaker of the 64th General Assembly of Nova Scotia. The Speaker presides over the proceedings of the Assembly, maintains order, regulates debate in accordance with the rules and practices of the House, and ensures that all viewpoints have the opportunity of a hearing.
