W. N. Ashbee
William Neville Ashbee (1852 – 30 April 1919) was an English railway architect notable for railway station, stations on the Great Eastern Railway, including the London terminus at Liverpool Street Station. Career The son of John Ashbee, who was the first stationmaster of the Great Western station at Gloucester railway station, Gloucester, Ashbee was articled clerk, articled as an architect to Alfred Maberley, the Diocesan Surveyor for Gloucester (the place of his birth) and became his assistant in 1872. In 1874 he joined the engineering firm of Edward Wilson (engineer), Edward Wilson & Co working on the construction of Liverpool Street Station and, while with the firm, designed most of the new Great Eastern Railway stations built in that period, working with John Wilson as engineer. Hertford East Railway Station
Hertford East railway station is the northern terminus of the Hertford East branch line off the West Anglia Main Line in the east of England, and is located in the town of Hertford in Hertfordshire. It is down the line from London Liverpool Street and is one of two stations in the town, the other being on the Hertford Loop Line. Its three-letter station code is HFE. The station and all trains calling are operated by Greater Anglia. Colchester railway station (also known as Colchester North) is on the Great Eastern Main Line (GEML) in the East of England, and is the primary station serving the city of Colchester, Essex. Its three-letter station code is COL. It is down the line from London Liverpool Street and on the GEML is situated between to the west and to the east. Wolferton Railway Station
Wolferton was a railway station on the Lynn and Hunstanton Railway line which opened in 1862 to serve the village of Wolferton in Norfolk, England. The station was also well known as the nearest station to Sandringham House, and royal trains brought the royal family to and from their estate until the station's closure in 1969. After spending some time as a museum, the station is now preserved in private hands. The signal box and part of the station are listed buildings, Grade II*. History In February 1862, a large estate was purchased in Sandringham as a private residence for the young Prince of Wales. Wolferton is a village in north Norfolk, England, 2 miles west of Sandringham, 7½ miles north of King's Lynn and 37¼ miles northwest of Norwich. Background The village's name means 'Wulfhere's farm/settlement'. The village forms part of the civil parish of Sandringham, which is in turn part of the district of King's Lynn and West Norfolk. Wolferton is best known as the location of Wolferton railway station. The station was opened in 1862 after Queen Victoria had purchased the site of Sandringham House as a Norfolk retreat. Fairlop Loop
The Hainault Loop was originally opened as the Fairlop Loop, a branch line of the Great Eastern Railway (GER). It once connected Woodford on the Ongar (now Epping) branch to Ilford on the Main Line, with an eastward connection for goods, excursions and stock transfers to Seven Kings. The loop opened to freight on 20 April 1903 and to passengers on 1 May 1903. In 1923, the GER was "grouped" into the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER), who provided passenger services until December 1947. Yarmouth–Lowestoft Line
The Yarmouth–Lowestoft line was an East Anglian railway line which linked the coastal towns of Yarmouth, Gorleston-on-Sea and Lowestoft. It opened on 13 July 1903 as the first direct railway link between the two towns and was constructed by the Great Eastern Railway and the Midland and Great Northern Railway in the hope of encouraging the development of holiday resorts along the coast. In the event, although the line was built to high standards and considerable cost, intermediate traffic did not develop and competition from buses and trams eroded the little that had been generated. Fish traffic was carried in large quantities until the 1930s when it fell into decline. In 1953, when major repairs to the Breydon Viaduct were required, it was decided to discontinue through services from the Midland and Great Northern to Lowestoft and to divert London trains to Lowestoft via Norwich. Buckhurst Hill is a London Underground station, in the Epping Forest district of Essex. It is served by the Central line and is between Woodford and Loughton. It is the larger of the two Underground stations in the town of Buckhurst Hill, with Roding Valley station being the smaller. It is the only London Underground station located in zone 5 but not in a London Borough. History The station opened on 22 August 1856 as part of the Eastern Counties Railway branch from London to Loughton.
