W. M. W. Fowler
William Menzies Weekes Fowler (14 July 1914 – 1977) was an English Royal Air Force pilot and author of the cookbook ''Countryman's Cooking''. Biography Fowler was born in 1914 in Lostock, Bolton, Lancashire, to parents Beryl Fowler (née Menzies) and Francis Hugh Fowler. He went to Durham School. He settled in Eskdale, Cumbria. A Lancaster bomber pilot in the Second World War, he was shot down in July 1941 over Münster, Germany. Subsequently, Fowler was detained in several prison camps until he was moved to Stalag Luft III in April 1943. After the war he returned to Eskdale where he farmed mink and daffodils. In 1965, he published his cookbook ''Countryman's Cooking'', which focused upon the preparation and cooking of game and fish. While the first edition of his book was not popular, the 2006 edition proved more so, selling over 10,000 copies. Beryl Fowler
Beryl Fowler, née Mary Beryl Menzies (1881–1963) was an English painter. Her oil paintings often depict rural life in Eskdale, Cumbria in England. Biography Mary Beryl Menzies was born in 1881 in Newcastle upon Tyne. Her father was an engineer. She was married to painter and teacher, Francis "Frank" Hugh Fowler (1878–1945) of Repton. She and her husband studied with German artist Hubert von Herkomer at Herkomer's Art School in Bushey, Hertfordshire. Her work is included in various museum collections including the Bushey Museum & Art Gallery, the Armitt Museum and Library, the Beacon Museum in Whitehaven, and the Laing Art Gallery. Mink
Mink are dark-colored, semiaquatic, carnivorous mammals of the genera ''Neogale'' and '' Mustela'' and part of the family Mustelidae, which also includes weasels, otters, and ferrets. There are two extant species referred to as "mink": the American mink and the European mink. The extinct sea mink was related to the American mink but was much larger. The American mink's fur has been highly prized for use in clothing. Their treatment on fur farms has been a focus of animal rights and animal welfare activism. American mink have established populations in Europe (including Great Britain and Denmark) and South America. Some people believe this happened after the animals were released from mink farms by animal rights activists, or otherwise escaped from captivity. Cormorant
Phalacrocoracidae is a family of approximately 40 species of aquatic birds commonly known as cormorants and shags. Several different classifications of the family have been proposed, but in 2021 the IOC adopted a consensus taxonomy of seven genera.
