The Supreme Court of Texas (SCOTX) is the court of last resort for civil matters (including juvenile delinquency cases, which are categorized as civil under the Texas Family Code) in the U.S. state of Texas. Calvin Maples Cureton (September 1, 1874 – April 8, 1940) was the chief justice of the Texas Supreme Court from 1921 to 1940. Born near Walnut Springs in Bosque County, Texas, Cureton's father was a rancher and his grandfather was a pioneer soldier."Chief Justice Cureton Dies at Age of 65", ''The Brownsville Herald'' (April 8, 1940), p. 1.
