Vélez Sársfield (barrio)
Vélez Sársfield is a '' barrio'' or district in the western part of Buenos Aires, Argentina, located in the area defined by the streets Segurola Avenue, Juan Agustín García, Lope de Vega Avenue, Juan B. Justo Ave., Corro Ave., Medina, Juan Bautista Alberdi Ave. and Mariano Acosta. Description and history The barrio was named after Dalmacio Vélez Sársfield, the 19th century author of the Civil Code of Argentina, and a translator of Latin poems into Spanish. It is a typical low-rise housing area, that like many others was mainly populated during the urban explosion at the beginning of the 20th century. It is currently a middle-class neighborhood, among whose largely low-rise housing there are some small factories and warehouses. The first division football (soccer) club CA Vélez Sársfield is in fact based in the nearby barrio of Liniers, in the José Amalfitani Stadium, and not in Vélez Sársfield itself. Flores is a middle-class ''barrio'' or district in the center part of Buenos Aires city, Argentina. Flores was considered a rural area of the Province of Buenos Aires until 1888 when it was integrated into the city. Flores is the birthplace of Pope Francis. A culvert is a structure that channels water past an obstacle or to a subterranean waterway. Maldonado Stream
The Maldonado Stream (''Arroyo Maldonado'') is an underground storm sewer in the city Buenos Aires, Argentina, that runs below Juan B. Justo Avenue. Originally a stream draining into the Río de la Plata, its length goes through 10 of the 47 barrios of the city: Versalles, Liniers, Villa Luro, Vélez Sarsfield, Floresta, Villa Santa Rita, Villa Mitre, Caballito, Villa Crespo, and Palermo. The stream was one of the natural limits of the city, before the Belgrano and Flores neighborhoods were incorporated. It is named after the legend of , a woman who arrived with Pedro de Mendoza in 1536, and was abandoned in the plain, on the margins of the stream. The stream became a garbage dump in time, and during the rainy season became a polluted waterway made dangerous because of its overflows. José Amalfitani Stadium
The José Amalfitani Stadium is a stadium located in the Liniers neighborhood of Buenos Aires, Argentina, near Liniers railway station. The venue is the home of the Argentine Primera División club Vélez Sarsfield and is also known as ''El Fortín de Liniers'' or ''Vélez Sarsfield''. The stadium was named after José Amalfitani, who was president of Vélez Sarsfield for 30 years. The original, temporary stadium was built between 1941 and 1943 in wood, and the current facility was built in cement between 1947 and 1951. It was renovated and enlarged 26 years later in preparation for the 1978 FIFA World Cup. The stadium has a capacity of 49,540 spectators, although it does not provide seating for all of them like most Argentine stadia. Liniers
Liniers is a barrio (neighborhood) of Buenos Aires on the edge of the city, centered on Rivadavia Avenue. It is also an important train station and bus hub, connecting western Gran Buenos Aires with the Buenos Aires Metro. The neighborhood developed around the Liniers railway station following its inaugural in 1872. The neighborhood is home to football club Club Atlético Vélez Sársfield, whose stadium, the José Amalfitani Stadium, has been established there in 1951.
