Västerbottens Museum
Västerbottens museum in the Gammlia area of Umeå, Sweden is a county museum with responsibility for the cultural history of Västerbotten County. The museum consists of the Gammlia open-air museum, a ski exhibition (previously the Swedish Ski Museum), an exhibition of Fishing and Maritime (previously the Fishing and Maritime Museum), the popular movement archive of Västerbotten County and a number of Sami camps. The museum is working all over Västerbotten County with, amongst other things, numerous contract activities, mainly in the archaeological field. The museum produces the quarterly journal ''Västerbotten'' for the Västerbotten County district association. Umeå
Umeå ( , , , locally ; South Westrobothnian: ;). fi, Uumaja; sju, Ubmeje; sma, Upmeje; se, Ubmi) is a city in northeast Sweden. It is the seat of Umeå Municipality and the capital of Västerbotten County. A Christmas market, also known as ''Christkindlmarkt'' (literally: ''Christ Child Market'', but the term "Christkind" usually refers to an angel-like "spirit of Christmas" rather than literally the Christ Child), ''Christkindlesmarkt'', ''Christkindlmarket'', ''Christkindlimarkt'', and ''Weihnachtsmarkt'', is a street market associated with the celebration of Christmas during the four weeks of Advent. Umeå Arts Campus
Umeå Arts Campus is the name of a former industry area that recently (2009–2012) was rebuilt to house several of the arts educations at Umeå University in Sweden. The arts campus will be an education center for architecture, design and artwork. Famous departments at the Umeå Arts Campus include Umeå Academy of Fine Arts, Umeå Institute of Design, Umeå School of Architecture, the experimental platform for "humanities and new media", HUMlab, and the contemporary art museum, Bildmuseet. Bildmuseet ( en, Museum of Visual Arts) is a contemporary art museum in Umeå, northern Sweden. History The museum was founded in 1981 by Umeå University and it exhibits Swedish and international contemporary art, visual culture, design, and architecture, sometimes along with historical art retrospectives. Fiskartorpet
Fiskartorpet is a recreational area north of Stockholm, Sweden. It is situated in the Djurgården area. It features a small hotel, a small conference center, and a number of restaurants. Sporting facilities include an ice hockey rink, a soccer field, and a K-47 ski jump. History King Charles XI of Sweden had a fishing cottage at Fiskartorpet during the 17th century, and the cottage still stands at its original location. The first ski jump at the site was built in the 1890s. In 1904, an even larger hill with towers was inaugurated after drawings by architect Gustaf Wickman (1858-1916). The first wooden structure of the tower was replaced in the 1930s. It had been designed by Gustaf Birch-Lindgren (1892-1969). Umeå City Fire
The Great Fire of Umeå took place in 1888 and destroyed most of the city of Umeå in Sweden. The unusual windy weather conditions also contributed to two other fires on the same day in Sweden. Umeå took the opportunity to complete its plans to restructure the city. Part of the new design included planting of birch trees along the streets, leading to Umeå being known as the "City of Birches". History The preponderance of fires around the city increased as agriculture methods changed. Historically the Sámi people had not used burning as a part of their practice, as it destroyed the lichen required by their reindeer. Tunnbröd (; literally "thinbread") is the Sweden, Swedish version of flatbread and properly belongs to northern Swedish cuisine where housewives share a common bakery to produce it. Tunnbröd can be soft or crisp, and comes in many variants depending on choice of grain, leavening agent (or lack thereof) and rolling pin. The dough is made from any combination of wheat, barley, oat and rye; the leavening agent can be both yeast and ammonium carbonate. Västerbotten County ( sv, Västerbottens län) is a county or ''län'' in the north of Sweden. It shares the borders with the counties of Västernorrland, Jämtland, and Norrbotten, as well as the Norwegian county of Nordland and the Gulf of Bothnia.
