Värmland Brigade
Värmland Brigade (IB 2) ( sv, Värmlandsbrigaden) was a Swedish Army infantry brigade. Most of the brigade's soldiers were trained at the Värmland Regiment in Karlstad. The unit was disbanded as a result of the disarmament policies set forward in the Defence Act of 2000 (Sweden), Defence Act of 2000. History The brigade was set up between 1949 and 1951. The brigade, together with the Värmland Regiment (I 2) was disbanded on 30 June 2000. The brigade's last commander was Colonel Björn Tomtlund. Battle Of Kliszów
The Battle of Kliszów (also spelled Klissow or Klezow) took place on July 19, 1702, near Kliszów in the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth during the Great Northern War. A numerically superior Polish–Saxon army led by king Augustus II the Strong was defeated by a Swedish army half its size under the command of king Charles XII of Sweden. During the second year of the war, following the Swedish victories at Narva and Düna, Charles XII launched a campaign against the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. His aim was to outmaneuver Augustus II's Saxon troops and create dissension in the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth to depose Augustus II as king of Poland. The Defence Act of 2000 (prop. 1999/2000:30) was a defence act passed by the Swedish Riksdag on 30 March 2000, and the largest reorganisation of the Swedish Armed Forces since the Defence Act of 1925. The act was a continuation of the policies set in motion by the Defence Act of 1996: shifting the military's focus from the defence of Swedish territory to a more flexible "operational defence* (Swedish: ''insatsförsvar'') for smaller-scale peacekeeping operations in foreign nations.
