Värend
Värend was in the Middle Ages the most populous of the constituent "small lands" of the province Småland, in Sweden. Early on, Växjö became its center. Around 1170, Värend broke out of the diocese of Linköping, and formed its own diocese of Växjö. Judicially, Värend was a part of "Tiohärad", which roughly corresponds to present-day Kronoberg County. It consists of the hundreds, or ''härader'', Allbo Hundred, Kinnevald Hundred, Konga Hundred, Norrvidinge Hundred and Uppvidinge Hundred. Blenda
Blenda is the heroine of a Swedish legend () from Småland. Blenda led the rural women of Värend in an attack on a pillaging Danish army and annihilated the invaders. Legend According to the legend, the events took place in the time of Alle (Anglo-Saxon ), King of the Geats, when this king led the Geats in an attack against Norway. King Alle had marshalled not only the West Geats, but also the South Geats (or Riding Geats) of Småland, and so many men had left for Norway that the region was virtually defenseless. When the Danes learned of Småland's precarious situation, they took advantage of it and attacked the defenseless small lands. Blenda was a woman of noble descent in the Konga Hundred and she decided to send the fiery cross to rally all the womenfolk in the hundreds of Konga, Albo, Kinnevald, Norrvidinge and Uppvidinge. Småland () is a historical province () in southern Sweden. Småland borders Blekinge, Scania, Halland, Västergötland, Östergötland and the island Öland in the Baltic Sea. Växjö
Växjö ( ) is a city and the seat of Växjö Municipality, Kronoberg County, Sweden. It had 70,489 inhabitants (2019) out of a municipal population of 95,995 (2021). Uppvidinge Hundred
Uppvidinge Municipality (''Uppvidinge kommun'') is a municipality in Kronoberg County, southern Sweden, with its seat in the town of Åseda. The present municipality, which took its name from a hundred, was formed by the local government reform of 1971 when ''Lenhovda'', ''Nottebäck'', ''Åseda'' and ''Älghult'' were amalgamated. The number of original entities, as of 1863, is six. The first amalgamation in the area (Granhult merged with Nottebäck) took place already in 1915. The municipality has a rather small population but its slogan states "In a Small Municipality Man Becomes Large". More than 80% of the area is covered with forests, making it live up to the general public's impression of the "dark" province of Småland.
