Várjjat Sámi Musea
The Varanger Sami Museum ( se, Várjjat Sámi Musea, no, Varanger Samiske Museum, VSM) is a museum for Sami culture and history in Varangerbotn in Nesseby in Troms og Finnmark. The museum is working with the Sea Sami history along Varangerfjord, Sami prehistory and contemporary Sami culture. The museum was established in 1983, and has since 2012 been a part of the joint museum . The main building was erected in 1994, inspired by traditional Sami architecture. The main building contains a basis exhibition, the children's room (the Stallo's den) and temporary exhibitions. Varangerbotn ( sme, Vuonnabahta) is the administrative centre of Nesseby Municipality, Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. It is located at the innermost part of the large Varangerfjorden. The village is located at the intersection of the European route E6 and European route E75 highways. The villages of Karlebotn and Nesseby or (also unofficially ''Uuniemi'' in Kven) is a municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. or (also unofficially ''Uuniemi'' in Kven) is a municipality in Troms og Finnmark county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Varangerbotn. Other villages in Nesseby include Gandvik, Karlebotn, Nesseby, and Nyelv. The European route E06 and European route E75 highways intersect at Varangerbotn in Nesseby. The municipality is the 62nd largest by area out of the 356 municipalities in Norway. Nesseby is the 343rd most populous municipality in Norway with a population of 854. Varangerfjord
The Varangerfjord ( en, Varanger Fjord; russian: Варангер-фьорд, Варяжский залив; fi, Varanginvuono; sme, Várjavuonna) is the easternmost fjord in Norway, north of Finland. The fjord is located in Troms og Finnmark county between the Varanger Peninsula and the mainland of Norway. The fjord flows through the municipalities of Vardø, Vadsø, Nesseby, and Sør-Varanger. The fjord is approximately long, emptying into the Barents Sea. In a strict sense, it is a false fjord, since it does not have the hallmarks of a fjord carved by glaciers. Stallo
In the folklore of the Sámi, a Stállo (also Staaloe, Stalo or Northern Sami Stállu) is a large, human-like creature who likes to eat people and who therefore is usually in some form of hostilities with a human. Stallos are clumsy and stupid, and thus humans often gain the upper hand over them. The Vindelfjällen Nature Reserve contains the remains of ancient, large building foundations, considered by the Sami to be the remains of Stallo dwellings. There is also a huge stone placed on some small pebbles on top near Lake Giengeljaure named ''stalostenen'', which literally means "the Stallo stone." Legend dictates that a Stallo would have placed a stone here to prove his strength.
