Bělá Pod Bezdězem
Bělá pod Bezdězem (german: Weisswasser) is a town in Mladá Boleslav District in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It has about 4,700 inhabitants. The town centre is well preserved and is protected by law as urban monument zone. Administrative parts Villages of Bezdědice, Březinka, Hlínoviště and Vrchbělá are administrative parts of Bělá pod Bezdězem. Bezdědice forms an exclave of the municipal territory. Etymology The town's name is derived from the local stream Bělá and the nearby hill Bezděz. The town was first named ''Nový Bezděz'' ("New Bezděz"), but soon the name changed to ''Bělá''. Geography Bělá pod Bezdězem is located about northwest of Mladá Boleslav and northeast of Prague. It lies in the Jizera Table with an exception of the Bezdědice exclave, which belongs to the Ralsko Uplands. ''The Fabulous Baron Munchausen'' ( cz, Baron Prášil) is a 1962 Czechoslovak romantic adventure film directed by Karel Zeman, based on the tales about Baron Munchausen. The film combines live-action with various forms of animation and is highly stylized, often evoking the engravings of Gustave Doré. A digital restoration of the film premiered on 5 September 2016 at the Telluride Film Festival in the United States. Plot The film begins with footsteps leading to a pond. The camera continually moves upwards to show the flight of butterflies, birds, and a progression of historical aircraft ending with a rocket ship travelling through space and landing on the Moon. ''Invention for Destruction'' ( cs, Vynález zkázy) is a 1958 Czechoslovak black-and-white science fiction adventure film, directed by Karel Zeman, produced by Zdeněk Novák, and starring Lubor Tokoš, Arnošt Navrátil, and Miloslav Holub. Based on several works by Jules Verne, primarily his 1896 novel ''Facing the Flag'' (with which the film shares its Czech title), the film evokes the original illustrations for Verne's works by combining live actors with various forms of animation. The film is set during the reign of Rudolf II, Holy Roman Emperor and was filmed in color (not common for Czechoslovak films in that period), because of the international release.
