Vradiivka
Vradiivka ( uk, Врадіївка; russian: Врадиевка) is a rural settlement in Pervomaisk Raion, Mykolaiv Oblast, Ukraine. It hosts the administration of Vradiivka settlement hromada, one of the hromadas of Ukraine. Until 1964 the settlement was known as Velyka Vradiivka. Population: Vradiivka is located on the right bank of the Kodyma, a right tributary of the Southern Bug. History Aryeh Leib Schochet, a Chassidic scholar, became a rabbi in Vradiivka in the 19th century. In the 1920s, the current area of the district belonged to Odessa Governorate. In 1923, uyezds in Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic were abolished, and the governorates were divided into okruhas. In 1923, Velyka Vradiivka Raion with the administrative center in Vradiivka was established. It belonged to Pervomaisk Okruha. Vradiivka Raion
Vradiivka Raion ( uk, Врадіївський район) was a subdivision of Mykolaiv Oblast of Ukraine. Its administrative center was the urban-type settlement of Vradiivka. The raion was abolished on 18 July 2020 as part of the administrative reform of Ukraine, which reduced the number of raions of Mykolaiv Oblast to four. Pervomaisk Raion ( uk, Первомайський район) is located in Mykolaiv Oblast of Ukraine. Its administrative center is the town of Pervomaisk. Population: History In the beginning of the 19th century, the current area of the district belonged to Olviopolsky Uyezd of Kherson Governorate. In 1828, Olviopolsky Uyezd was merged with Yelisavetgradsky Uyezd into Bobrinetsky Uyezd. In 1865, the administrative center of Bobrinetsky Uyezd was moved to Yelisavetgrad, and the uyezd was renamed Yelisavetgradsky. In 1919, Olviopol was merged with Bohopil and Holta to form the city of Pervomaisk. On 16 April 1920, Kherson Governorate was renamed Nikolayev Governorate, and on 21 October 1922, it was merged into Odessa Governorate. Rabbi Aryeh Leib Schochet ( he, אריה לייב שוחט) was a Ukrainian rabbi who emigrated to the United States in 1906. He published a book on Hasidic philosophy titled '' Lekutim Yekarim''. Biography Aryeh Leib was born in Balta, now in Ukraine in 1845. His mother Tziporah was the daughter of Rabbi Yoseph Zev Wolf Segal of Balta, his father was Yaakov Nissan. He grew up in a town mostly occupied by Chasidim of Rabbi Refoel of Bershad, though he was a student of Rabbi Dovid Twersky of Tolna and Rabbi Yitzchok Yoel Rabinowitz of Kantikaziva. In his book, he related how his uncle Reuven Wolf Segal took care of Rabbi Shmuel Avraham Abba Shapiro of Slavuta, while he recuperated from being lashed 1,500 times by the Russian government. Avraham and his brother Pinchas Shapiro, both grandchildren of Rabbi Pinchas of Koritz, were the owners of the Slavuta printing house, which had been founded by their father, Rabbi Moshe Shapiro.
