''Voyager'' is an album by Scottish musician Momus (musician), Momus, released in 1992 by Creation Records. ''Voyager'' marked Momus' increased popularity in Japan, where he was signed to Nippon Columbia and began to collaborate with a number of notable Shibuya-kei artists. Background ''Voyager'' marked a turn in Momus' musical and lyrical output, which became increasingly focused on Japanese themes and musically influenced by Ambient music, ambient and House music, house music. Inspired in part by the staging of a Yukio Mishima play that Momus had attended at the 1991 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Edinburgh Festival, the album heavily utilized science fiction themes. Momus described this era as "looking into 21st century", and reflective of a "new sensibility in the 90s". Momus (musician)
Nicholas "Nick" Currie (born 11 February 1960), more popularly known under the artist name Momus (after the Momus, Greek god of mockery), is a Scotland, Scottish musician and writer. For over forty years he has been releasing albums on labels in the United Kingdom, the United States, and Japan. In his lyrics and his other writing he makes use of continental philosophy, and has built up a personal world he says is "dominated by values like diversity, orientalism, and a respect for otherness". Career Musical Nicholas Currie's musical career began in 1981, with his band The Happy Family (band), The Happy Family, featuring ex-members of Josef K (band), Josef K, who made a single and a concept album ''The Man on Your Street: Songs of the Dictator Hall'' on hip UK indie label 4AD. ''Don't Stop the Night'' is the fourth studio album by Scottish musician Momus (musician), Momus. It was released in 1989 through Creation Records internationally, and in Germany on Rough Trade Records, Rough Trade. The album featured Momus' highest-charting single to date, "The Hairstyle of the Devil", which reached No. 94 on the UK Singles Chart for the week of 30 April 1989. Background Following the release of 1988's ''Tender Pervert'', Momus recorded a new single, "The Hairstyle of the Devil", at London's Scarf Studio, which quickly saw success in the UK. The album's working title was ''Sexual Crimes of the Professional Classes''. Neil Francis Tennant (born 10 July 1954) is an English musician, singer, songwriter and music journalist, and co-founder of the synth-pop duo Pet Shop Boys, which he formed with Chris Lowe in 1981. He was a journalist for ''Smash Hits'', and assistant editor for the magazine in the mid-1980s. Tennant coined the phrase imperial phase to describe the period in which a musical artist is regarded to be at their commercial and creative peak simultaneously. Gary Anthony James Webb (born 8 March 1958), known professionally as Gary Numan, is an English musician. He entered the music industry as frontman of the new wave band Tubeway Army. Kahimi Karie
, better known by her stage name , is a Japanese singer, songwriter and photographer. Her music is closely associated with the Shibuya-kei aesthetic. Karie sings in English, French and Japanese, among other languages. Karie began her music career in 1990 at the encouragement of fellow Shibuya-kei artist Cornelius, whom she collaborated with on many of her early works, and whose trendy Trattoria label released many of her EPs in the mid-1990s. After the critical success of Momus' Biblical-themed and stripped down debut album ''Circus Maximus'' (1986), Momus left él Records and signed with Creation Records after he bonded with record label boss Alan McGee. His first release for the label, ''The Poison Boyfriend'' is a song cycle that features a full band; its first half features acoustic-based singer-songwriter songs with cabaret pop influences, while the more upbeat second half features synthesisers and drum machines.
