Vote Common Good
Vote Common Good is an American 501(c)(4) non-profit organization aimed at influencing religiously-motivated voters. The group was founded by its executive director, Doug Pagitt. During a national bus tour leading up to the 2018 midterm elections, the group held rallies with progressive candidates. In 2019 and 2020, the group was focused on encouraging religious voters to oppose the Trump Administration through coordination with groups such as The Lincoln Project. According to the group's website, they host events in-person, as well as online podcasts and video programs to influence voters. Doug Pagitt
Doug Pagitt (born July 5, 1966) is a progressive evangelical pastor and author associated with the emerging church movement. Ministry Pagitt is the founding pastor of Solomon's Porch in South Minneapolis and the executive director of Vote Common Good. During weekly "gatherings" of Solomon's Porch, instead of giving traditional sermons, Pagitt facilitates dialogical talks, encouraging questions and participation from the congregation. Pagitt founded Emergent Village in 1999, a generative friendship of missional church leaders around the world and is a leading architect of the emergent church discussion. He sees the emergent movement not as one organization but as an "incubation center" that has influenced hundreds of organizations by inspiring new ways of thinking of the Christian faith. The Lincoln Project is an American political action committee (PAC) formed in late 2019 by former and current moderate Republicans. During the 2020 presidential election, it aimed to prevent the re-election of Donald Trump and defeat all Republicans in close races running for re-election in the United States Senate. Brian McLaren
Brian D. McLaren (born 1956) is an American pastor, author, speaker, and leading figure in the emerging church movement. McLaren is also associated with postmodern Christianity. Education and career Raised in Rockville, Maryland in the conservative Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, McLaren became attracted to the countercultural Jesus Movement in the 1970s. In the 1970s and early 1980s, McLaren attended the University of Maryland where he received both a B.A. and M.A. He founded Cedar Ridge Community Church in Spencerville, Maryland, in 1982 while he was teaching English on the college level. In 1986, he became a full-time pastor. The church eventually grew to include 500 members. Nadia Bolz-Weber
Nadia Bolz-Weber (born April 22, 1969) is an American author, Lutheran minister and public theologian. She served as the founding pastor of House for All Sinners and Saints, a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in Denver, Colorado, until July 8, 2018. Bolz-Weber is known for her unusual approach to reaching others through her church. She has produced work in the church that scholar and writer Diana Butler Bass considers part of "a new Reformation". Biography Bolz-Weber was born as Nadia Bolz and grew up in Colorado Springs in a fundamentalist Christian family. Bolz-Weber began to acquire tattoos in 1986 at age 17. Shane Claiborne (born July 11, 1975) is a Christian activist and author who is a leading figure in the New Monasticism movement and one of the founding members of the non-profit organization, The Simple Way, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. John Pavlovitz
John Pavlovitz (born June 1, 1969) is an American former youth pastor and author, known for his progressive social and political writings from a liberal Christian perspective. Early life and education Pavlovitz was born in Syracuse, New York to a middle-class family of Italian and Russian Jewish descent, and was raised as a member of the Catholic Church. He studied graphic design at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Ministry After college, Pavlovitz joined a Methodist church, where he married his wife Jennifer. Diana Butler Bass
Diana Butler Bass (born February 19, 1959) is an American historian of Christianity and an advocate for progressive Christianity. She is the author of eleven books, many of which have won research or writing awards. Bass earned a PhD in religious studies from Duke University in 1991 with an emphasis on American ecclesiastical history, studying under George Marsden. From 1995 to 2000, she wrote a weekly column on religion and culture for the New York Times Syndicate that appeared in more than seventy newspapers nationwide, and has since become a popular commentator on American religion for other media outlets.
