Cyril Vosper
Cyril Ronald Vosper (7 June 1935 – 4 May 2004) was an anti-cult leader, former Scientologist and later a critic of Scientology, deprogrammer, and spokesperson on men's health. He wrote '' The Mind Benders'', which was the first book on Scientology to be written by an ex-member, and the first critical book on Scientology to be published (narrowly beating '' Inside Scientology'' by Robert Kaufman). Biography Vosper was born in 1935 in Hounslow, Middlesex (now part of Greater London) and lived his early life in Britain. Dennis Vosper, Baron Runcorn
Dennis Forwood Vosper, Baron Runcorn TD PC (2 January 1916 – 20 January 1968) was a British Conservative Party politician. Educated at The Leas, Hoylake, Marlborough College and at Pembroke College, Cambridge, he first worked with Wilson, Vosper & Coltart, Ships Store & Export Merchants, in Liverpool. He was commissioned into the Cheshire Regiment ( Territorial Army) in April 1939 and served until the 1950s, reaching the rank of Major. He was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Runcorn, Cheshire in 1950, holding the seat until 1964. He held office as Conservative Whip, 1950–1954; as a Lord Commissioner of the Treasury, 1951–1954; Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Education, October 1954 – January 1957; Minister of Health, 1957, from which he resigned owing to illness in September 1957. Frank Permain Vosper (15 December 1899, in London – 6 March 1937) was an English actor who appeared in both stage and film roles and a dramatist, playwright and screenwriter. Stage Vosper made his stage debut in 1919 and was best known for playing urbane villains. His extensive stage experience included appearing in his own play '' Love from a Stranger'' (1936), adapted from the short story " Philomel Cottage" by Agatha Christie. His screenplays included co-writing the comedy ''No Funny Business'' with ''Victor Hanbury'' (1933). He also co-wrote the adaptation of G.B. Stern's novel ''Debonair'' with the novelist which opened at the Lyric 23 April 1930. He also wrote ''People Like Us'', based on the case of Edith Thompson and Frederick Bywaters. Frederick Charles Burleigh Vosper (23 March 1869 – 6 January 1901) was an Australian newspaper journalist and proprietor, and politician. He was well known for his ardent views and support of Australian republicanism, federalism and trade unionism. Early life The son of civil engineer Charles Watson Vosper, Frederic Vosper was born in St Dominick, Cornwall, United Kingdom, and educated at Truro. He emigrated to Bolivia at the age of 15. Few other details of his early life are available, but in 1885 he was at Devonport serving with the Royal Navy on the training ship ''Lion''. Journalistic career Early in 1886 Vosper emigrated to Australia, arriving in Maryborough, Queensland in the middle of the year. He worked as a timber miller, drover and miner, before taking a job as a journalist for the ''Eidsvold Reporter''. Sydney Curnow Vosper RWS, RWA (29 October 1866 – 10 July 1942) was an English painter and etcher of landscapes and figure subjects. His later work has a close association with Wales and Brittany. His most famous work is '' Salem'' (1908), which shows an old woman in the Welsh national costume, with Welsh hat and shawl, attending a service at Salem Baptist Chapel, Pentre Gwynfryn. Personal history Vosper was born in Stonehouse, Plymouth, in 1866 to Samuel, a brewer, and Eleanor Vosper. He attend a school in Somerset and Plymouth College. Following this he spent three years as an architect's apprentice before beginning his artistic career as an illustrator in London. Tessa Ann Vosper Blackstone, Baroness Blackstone, (born 27 September 1942) is an English politician and university administrator. Early life Her father, Geoffrey Vaughan Blackstone, CBE, GM, was the Chief Fire Officer for Hertfordshire and her mother, Joanna Vosper, was an actress and model for the House of Worth in Paris. She was educated at Ware Grammar School for Girls and the London School of Economics, where she gained a doctorate. Vosper & Company, often referred to simply as Vospers, was a British shipbuilding company based in Portsmouth, England. History The Company was established in 1871 by Herbert Edward Vosper, concentrating on ship repair and refitting work. By the turn of the century, Vosper was prospering as a general-purpose builder of small craft, boilers and marine engines, for which they had made a name for themselves as a producer of reliable designs. In the lean times after World War I, they concentrated mainly on ship repair to survive. By the early 1930s, the company began to concentrate on high speed naval craft, yachts and power boats, for which they would become renowned. In 1936 they became listed as a public company, known as Vosper, Limited, at which time they moved to a new yard at Portchester.
