Vorbote
''Vorbote'' was a German socialist publication, the monthly central organ of the German section of the First International. It was published in Geneva from 1866 to 1871. Revival of ''Verbote'' in 1916 The title was revived in January 1916 as a German language newspaper published in the Netherlands under the editorship of Anton Pannekoek. Originally Karl Radek had envisioned that he would that he would play a key role on an editorial board consisting of himself, Pannekoek, Henriette Roland Holst, Lenin, Trotsky, Franz Mehring, Julian Borchardt with the possibly inclusion of Robert Grimm, Clara Zetkin and Louis Fraina. Louis Fraina
Louis C. Fraina (October 7, 1892 – September 15, 1953) was a founding member of the Communist Party USA in 1919. After running afoul of the Communist International in 1921 over the alleged misappropriation of funds, Fraina left the organized radical movement, emerging in 1926 as a left wing public intellectual by the name of Lewis Corey. During the McCarthyism, McCarthy era, deportation proceedings were initiated against Fraina-Corey. After a protracted legal battle, Corey died of a cerebral hemorrhage before the action against him was formally abandoned. Biography Early Years Louis C. Fraina was born as Luigi Carlo Fraina on October 7, 1892, in the ''frazione'' of the town of Campagna, in the Province of Salerno of southern Italy. International Workingmen's Association
The International Workingmen's Association (IWA), often called the First International (1864–1876), was an international organisation which aimed at uniting a variety of different left-wing socialist, communist and anarchist groups and trade unions that were based on the working class and class struggle. It was founded in 1864 in a workmen's meeting held in St. Martin's Hall, London. Its first congress was held in 1866 in Geneva. In Europe, a period of harsh reaction followed the widespread Revolutions of 1848. The next major phase of revolutionary activity began almost twenty years later with the founding of the IWA in 1864. At its peak, the IWA reported having 8 million members while police reported 5 million. In 1872, it split in two over conflicts between statist and anarchist factions and dissolved in 1876.
