Vopli Vidoplyasova
Vopli Vidopliassova ( uk, Воплі Відоплясова ), also shortened to VV (), is a Ukrainian rock band. It was created in 1986 in Kyiv, in the Ukrainian SSR of the Soviet Union (present-day Ukraine). The leader of the band is singer Oleh Skrypka. Vopli Vidopliasova are the founders of Ukrainian rock-n-roll style and neo-ethnic rock. They first sang Ukrainian rock outside Ukraine. Their influences include folk, patriotic songs, punk, hard rock, heavy metal and, most recently, electronic music. Their song ''Den Narodzhennia'' is featured in the Russian crime films ''Brother'' and ''Brother 2'' by director Aleksei Balabanov. Band member Oleh Skrypka has also produced several solo albums. In 2009, their record label, Kraina Mriy, released all their albums for free as a Christmas present. A lot of their early material (1986-1996) is in Drop C tuning. Aleksei Oktyabrinovich Balabanov (russian: Алeксeй Oктябpинoвич Балабанoв; 25 February 1959 – 18 May 2013) was a Russian film director, screenwriter, and producer, a member of European Film Academy. He started from creating mostly arthouse pictures and music videos but gained significant mainstream popularity in action crime drama movies ''Brother'' (1997) and ''Brother 2'' (2000), both of which starred Sergei Bodrov, Jr. Later, Balabanov directed the films '' Cargo 200'' (2007), ''Morphine'' (2008) and '' A Stoker'' (2010) which also received critical recognition. ''Abo abo'' ( uk, Або або; en, "Either … Or") is a live album by Ukrainian rock band Vopli Vidopliassova and the band's first official release. It was released in 1992 and is taken from a concert at the Eurockéennes festival in France in 1991. The concert was recorded by an unknown Frenchman with a Maxell cassette and was given to the band. Track list The vinyl version of ''Abo abo'' has the first 7 tracks plus the first 18 seconds of Rassvet on side A and the rest of Rassvet plus tracks 8 through 14 on side B. Track 1 has never been officially released anywhere else. Tracks 2-5, 9, 11 and 12 were released on Kraina Mriy. Track 6 was released on Fayno. Tracks 10 and 13 were released on Hvyli Amura and tracks 7 and 14 were released on Buly denky. ''Tantsi'' ( uk, Танці, en, Dances) is an album by the band Vopli Vidopliassova. It was originally released on 29 March 1989 on Fonograf, the house record label of the newspaper ''Molodaya Gvardia''. Thirteen of the fourteen tracks were recorded in one night at the Institute of Metallurgy in the Akademmistechko neighborhood of Kyiv; "Mahatma" was recorded live at a show at the Institute of Foreign Languages.
