Volvo Concept Estate
The Volvo Concept Estate is a concept car which was first unveiled at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. The Volvo ''Concept Estate'' was the last of three concept cars designed by the head of design of Volvo, Thomas Ingenlath, which was intending to point the way for the future design direction of Volvo. The basic design was shared with the preceding Volvo Concept Coupe and Volvo Concept XC Coupe, while the ''Concept Estate'' is a shooting brake like the 1800 ES of the 1970s. Concept Car
A concept car (also known as a concept vehicle, show vehicle or prototype) is a car made to showcase new styling and/or new technology. They are often exhibited at motor shows to gauge customer reaction to new and radical designs which may or may not be mass-produced. General Motors designer Harley Earl is generally credited with inventing the concept car, and did much to popularize it through its traveling Motorama shows of the 1950s. Concept cars never go into production directly. In modern times all would have to undergo many changes before the design is finalized for the sake of practicality, safety, regulatory compliance, and cost. Geneva Motor Show
The Geneva International Motor Show is an annual auto show held in March in the Swiss city of Geneva. The show is hosted at the Palexpo, a convention centre located next to the Geneva Cointrin International Airport. The Salon is organised by the Organisation Internationale des Constructeurs d'Automobiles, and is considered an important major international auto show. First held in 1905, the Salon has hosted almost all major internal combustion engined models in the history of the automobile, along with benzene- and steam-powered cars from the beginning of the century. Thomas Ingenlath
Thomas Ingenlath is a German car designer and is currently CEO of Polestar and previously Senior Vice President Design at Volvo Cars. Education and career Ingenlath obtained an MA in Vehicle Design at the Royal College of Art in London following his degree at Fachhochschule für Gestaltung in Pforzheim, Germany. He joined the Volkswagen Group and worked for Audi, chief exterior designer for Volkswagen and then in 2000 was appointed Chief Designer at Škoda. In 2006 he was promoted to Director of Design at the Volkswagen Design Center in Potsdam. In 2012 he moved to Volvo and head of design and in 2017 became CEO of the Polestar subsidiary. Volvo Concept Coupe
The Volvo Concept Coupe is a concept car that was first revealed at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. The concept car was based on Volvo's new platform Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), designed to provide the technical foundation for future Volvo models. The front wheels are driven by a four-cylinder, two-litre petrol engine from Volvo's Volvo Engine Architecture (VEA) engine family, fed by both turbocharger and supercharger. Shooting Brake
Shooting brake (sometimes mis-identified as "shooting break") is a car body style which originated in the 1890s as a horse-drawn wagon used to transport shooting parties with their equipment and game. The first automotive shooting brakes were manufactured in the early 1900s in the United Kingdom. The vehicle style became popular in England during the 1920s and 1930s. They were produced by vehicle manufacturers or as conversions by coachbuilders. The term was used in Britain interchangeably with estate car from the 1930s but has not been in general use for many years and has been more or less superseded by the latter term. Scalable Product Architecture
The Volvo Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform is a global, full-size, unibody automobile platform developed and manufactured by Volvo Cars. It debuted in 2014 when the second-generation Volvo XC90 was released. Work on the new in-house platform began in 2011 shortly after Volvo was acquired by Geely from Ford Motor Company. During development, particular emphasis was placed on achieving weight-reduction, design commonality, manufacturing rationalization, and hybridization opportunities. Volvo XC90
The Volvo XC90 is a mid-size luxury SUV manufactured and marketed by Volvo Cars since 2002 and now in its second generation.
