Volunteers for Israel (VFI) is an American non-profit organization that volunteers to do civilian work in Israel, open to both Jews and non-Jews. It is most famous for doing civilian work on Israeli Defense Forces bases in partnership with Sar-El. The organization began in 1982, during the 1982 Lebanon War. Sar-El
Sar-El ( he, שר-אל; lit. ''The National Project for Volunteers for Israel'' or ''Service for Israel''), is a non-profit service organization, subordinate and under the direction of the Israeli Logistics Corps, for Israeli citizens living abroad, and who now wish to finalize their status with the military. The program is also open to non-Israeli citizens who wish to participate in a service program akin to national service, without enlisting in the Israeli Defense Forces. The program usually consists of three weeks of volunteer service on different rear army or air force bases, doing non-combative work. The program also has one and two week service periods. In the case of non-Israelis, they must be aged 17 years or older (or 15 if accompanied by a parent), and in the case of Israeli citizens, they must be 30 years of age or older, and have for some reason or another not completed their national service requirement. 1982 Lebanon War

Birthright Israel
Taglit-Birthright Israel ( he, תגלית), also known as Birthright Israel or simply Birthright, is a not-for-profit educational organization that sponsors free ten-day heritage trips to Israel, Jerusalem, and the Golan Heights for young adults of Jewish heritage, aged 18–32. ''Taglit'' is the Hebrew word for 'discovery'. During their trip, participants, most of whom are visiting Israel for the first time, are encouraged to discover new meaning in their personal Jewish identity and connection to Jewish history and culture. Since trips began in the winter of 1999 through 2017, more than 600,000 young people from 67 countries have participated in the program.
