Volleyball
Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964. Beach volleyball was introduced to the programme at the Atlanta 1996. The adapted version of volleyball at the Summer Paralympic Games is sitting volleyball. The complete set of rules is extensive, but play essentially proceeds as follows: a player on one of the teams begins a 'rally' by serving the ball (tossing or releasing it and then hitting it with a hand or arm), from behind the back boundary line of the court, over the net, and into the receiving team's court. The receiving team must not let the ball be grounded within their court. The team may touch the ball up to three times to return the ball to the other side of the court, but individual players may not touch the ball twice consecutively. ... Vigor Bovolenta
Vigor Bovolenta (30 May 1974 – 24 March 2012) was a volleyball player from Italy. Bovolenta was part of the men's national team that won the European Championship in 1995 and the silver medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics. He died at the age of 37 only a few hours after feeling faint (allegedly suffering a heart attack) during an Italian League fourth level game between his team, Forlì, and the reserve team of Macerata. Vladimir Batez
Vladimir Batez ( sr-cyr, Владимир Батез; born September 7, 1969) is a Serbian politician and a retired volleyball player who competed for Yugoslavia in the 1996 Summer Olympics and in the 2000 Summer Olympics. He was the Provincial Secretary for Sports and Youth in the Government of Vojvodina from 2016 to 2020, serving under president Igor Mirović. Julio Velasco
Julio Velasco (born 9 February 1952) is an Argentine former professional volleyball player and coach. He's had Italian citizenship obtained in 1992. Velasco was inducted into the Volleyball Hall of Fame in 2005. Velasco currently serves as a sports director for the Italian Volleyball Federation. Career Player Julio Velasco began playing volleyball at the age of 15 for National University of La Plata Club. Coach Velasco became assistant coach on the Argentina national men's team from 1981 to 1983. In 1983 he was invited to coach for Tre Valli Jesi in Italy, staying until 1985. Andrea Zorzi (born 29 July 1965 in Noale, province of Venice) is a former Italian volleyball player, who won two World Championships with the Italy men's national volleyball team (1990 and 1994). A 201 cm athlete, Zorzi was en effective spiker playing usually as opposite hitter. He was popularly known as Zorro. After his debut in Bormio in 1986, he totalled 325 caps with Italian national team. He was a silver medalist in the 1996 Summer Olympics and also competed at the 1988 and 1992 games. Paolo Tofoli (born August 14, 1966 in Fermo) is a former Italian volleyball player and current coach, standing at 188 cm. He played 342 times for the Italy national volleyball team. Tofoli was two time world champion in 1990 and 1994. He was also four times gold medal at the European Championship (1989, 1993, 1995 and 1999). Andrea Sartoretti (born 19 June 1971) is an Italian former volleyball player. Biography Born at Perugia, Sartoretti debuted in the Italian Serie in 1991, winning the Award as best Under 23 player. A 1.94 cm athlete, he usually played opposite hitter. Sartoretti was known for his powerful serve, which gained him the nickname of ''Sartorace''. He won one Italian Serie A1 national title in 1997, with Pallavolo Modena. Sartoretti also won three CEV Champions Leagues and two European Supercups in his stay at Messaggero Ravenna (1991-1996). Pasquale Gravina (born 1 May 1970 in Campobasso, Molise) is a manager and a former Italian professional volleyball player. Athlete Gravina is 201 cm and played as middle attacker. After some experiences for minor leagues, he made his debut in the Italian volleyball championship first division in 1988, for Falconara. His qualities, especially in block actions, made him a choice for a top team: Maxicono Parma in 1990. In this club he won the ''scudetto'' in 1992 and 1993. Andrea Giani
Andrea Giani (born 22 April 1970) is an Italian professional volleyball coach and former player who scored numerous successes in the 1990s, including three World Championships with his national team. He is considered one of the best volleyball players ever. He was an all-rounder able to play both as outside hitter and as middle blocker, but he played several times as opposite too.
